I would get this stuff professionaly appraised before doing anything.

Alot of that jewelry looks like costume jewelry, and those proof sets and silver sets are basically worth more as scrap silver than anything right now. At a glance, most of that stuff doesn't look old enough (coins and stamps) to be worthy of a decent sales broker.

Definitely get it appraised, then get the appraisal value x2 in insurance, and a good safe.

Best keep silver and gold right now, their prices don't generally falter over time.

Best thing to do investment wise, get the best deals he can get trading for weight (not monetary value) of silver or gold, and get rid of anything that won't increase in value as quickly that way.

Or, he could make the foolish decision to sell everything, get ripped off in the process, and then lose big time when metals prices rise and he has nothing to sell.

              $0.02

The jewelry is ALL REAL with the original receipts. They were his dads and were bought here , in our town, at a long established store.

Tony, just at a glance, the stamp collection is easily 4 figures. and that's at today's values. if you wait another decade or so and the economy improves, you can likely see mid 4 digits for the collection especially since most are unused and in exelent-mint condition as well as in proofs or full sheets.

Very nice! I would tell him to get it apraised. Hang on to the coins. The fourign coins not worth much as coins, unless unusial. The Am. Eagles , Silver one about $35-40, Gold one a couple hundred. Stamps, got no idea. And what everyone said the coins will just increase in value.
If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!

                      X2 on getting it appraised.

As far as the coins; you can purchase a price guide at most book stores that will give you a pretty good ballpark idea of their value.
If a hammer doesn't fix it you have an electrical problem
