  • My Festy @ Autocross

A while ago I posted about an Autocross I stumbled on at a local skytrain parking lot. Today was another even being held there so I went along with the intention to just spectate but ended up competing!

The Festy was a lot more fun than I had anticipated in its stock form & I cant wait until it gets some mods under it, it'll be a hell of a lot of fun!

I didn't expect to be competitive but over the 3 versions of the cones which equal one full timed lap, I was only 1 second a lap slower than a Ford Mustang GT, me and him both out for our first time ever at Autocross.

Anyways, no action shots this time around, but some photos of the cars.

Beautiful! Nice job as always, my friend. Rather than repeat myself, all of my recommendations for good handling and suspension mods can be found in the following thread. It's pretty comprehensive - which, judging by the detail on your photography, I know you will appreciate.

This is impressive to me. Short wheel base probably helps a ton, but I've always assumed a stock festy is abysmally slow through corners. Are our cars actually pretty decent?

Actually yes... they're an absolute blast to race too in all contexts. Here are a few of my favourites:

Show your racing trophies, 1/4 mile time slips and discuss other sanctioned racing sessions (includes auto-x, drag racing, 1/8 mile slips, etc)

Thanks for the feedback guys, much appreciated! The mostly red turn out made for some interesting photos

As for how the car is in stock form - I too was unsure about how it'd be, I actually thought it wouldnt be much fun at all due to excessive body roll, however after now competing I can say first hand. Racing ANYTHING is fun, it all makes good learning.

One of the guys there actually said despite my car having VERY soft & bouncy suspension it seems to hold itself fairly flat around the corners (wish i had video to see this myself)

For anyone who hasn't autocrossed, its all fairly low speed stuff, most people don't leave second gear for the small circuit stuff, this is why it minimizes the large time differences between say a festiva & a mustang. Get to the larger circuit they create at the end of the day, this is when the big engines shine!

Not much footage of the Festy & it looks super slow but here it is anyways.

Gives you an idea of how it handled the corners though, not as much body roll as I thought it'd have!
