  • Found a MONSTER today...

was almost home and saw cars slowing and swerving in the road ahead of me....then I saw why.

I could not let him just keep walking around in the road.....2 other motorists tried to help me catch him....took almost half an hour of coaxing but I finally was able to slip a leash around his neck that belonged to my much smaller dog. He walked on it fine till I tried to get him in the car. He turned into an instant mule. I could not get him to budge for the life of me. I even called the cops to try and have them take him. Well about another half hour later and one of the cops dinner, we finally were able to get the dog into the car. He is now residing in the spare bedroom till I can figure out what to do with him tomorrow. He is really just a big baby though....he looks very intimidating when he does not want to do something but has not growled or even seemed like he was gonna bite at all...I was using him for a pillow ...lol.

    Dog

A dog that majestic must have an owner. Craigslist would be a good start.

What a gorgeous dog! I assume there were no houses around or anywhere he could have come from? It might take some effort and time, but canvasing is about the best way to find his owners, if they want to be found. Perhaps local vets might know him. Who knows -- You might decided to keep him! Good luck.

If I had no other animals, namely a dog, I would consider keeping him if I could not find the owner. I am really leery with him....only because of my granddaughter living with me and not knowing for sure how much he is willing to take....you know kids. The dog I have now was here before her but you would think they grew up together....she can lay on her and pull on her and tell her what to do and she just rolls with it.

It is funny....for his size he is a baby....he backs off from the one cat that will even come near him...he is fine with my dog for being thrown into this situation. He is fine with Izzy (granddaughter) but he is twice her size and she just does not get that she can not treat him like she does Molly.

He is someones dog....he is well taken care of from what I can tell. He is a BIG boy, very muscular and strong. He is kind of like a bull in a china shop...lol. Every little noise causes him to look at you like....I didn't do that....lol.

Stiva...I tried a couple of houses but it was dark and I felt weird going up to the door in the pitch black. I plan on stopping down the road during daylight hours tomorrow. There is a place called rescue village not to far away that I will try to take him too so I know he will not have to worry about being put down....I would not be able to sleep if that happened.

He is so Handsome! I wish I could take him.If it wasnt for my wife I'd ask you to let me have him. Last time I brought a lost Bull Dog home.I ended up staying with him in the Barn. No joke. I called the Sherrif & reported him missing/found. In @ 2 hrs the owner contacted me. Got $20.00 bucks from the owner as a nice gesture. Made the stay in the barn somewhat worth while.Thats a pure bred for sure Geneva-I have one already. And you are wise to keep you grandaughter in sight till you figure out his tempermant. Ours is fine with our bird cats etc. But man does she terrorize Racoons ! Good luck, hopefully you can find the owner.

hes a beauty but with your grand daughter living with you i wouldnt take the chance of keeping him since he is an adult dog & he could be food aggressive.

Seriously people are ignorant. Why have this dog and not have a leash on him. My dog carries a tag with his name and my name and number. Also his vets name. If my dog gets away somehow I usually receive a phone call in 5 min. It's a 3 dollar dog tag. Maybe they couldn't afford to feed the beast any longer....

One thing I forgot to mention is that he might have a microchip. My daughter's cat has one in case he gets lost. Just a thought. I hope you find his owner.

well I am off to try and find his home....looks like he had a collar on and he either slipped it or someone took it off (hopefully not to drop it off). The dog is very nice....does not bother the cats at all and it is hanging out with my dog now with no issues. As far as food aggressive. Have not seen that at all....he is very careful taking food from your hand....and my granddaughter was just laying on the floor with her legs over his back....she has feed him hot dogs already and he just bites off pieces as she holds it....being very careful to not touch her hand. I sure hope I find that his owner is missing him and not just a careless you know what.
If I can not find his owner and the dog warden determines he is pitbull....I will keep him till I find him a home but I will have to find one for sure....he is just too much with all our other animals.....off to look.

May feel under the skin at the back of his neck. A lot of the shelters and vets now put a microchip there for identification. I agree to be cautious with the kids. My wife does behavior assessment for the local shelters. I've seen many dogs that were sweethearts but would turn in the wrong situation (like food agression or resource guarding). Treat him like a person you don't know.

Just got back from the shelter after checking for owners up and down the road. Once there they told me if it is a pi bull they do not adopt them out and just put them down, Ohio law I am told. I said I do not think it is a pitbull and they said they would look at him. They agree is very large for a pitbull but feel he is for sure and that if I left him they would have to destroy him.
Well while I was showing him to the lady a couple of women walked by looking for a dog and heard the conversation and just stopped and watched. When the shelter lady went in to get her chip checker they came up and asked what I was going to do...I said there was no way I was leaving him and if I couldn't find his owner I was going to find him a home.
The one looking for a dog got a big smile on her face and looked at her friend and said maybe this is a sign. She loved the dog and took a pic to send to her husband. She gave me her number so if the last 2 stops I was making did not pan out she would talk to her husband and she would take him.
After stopping and getting 2 definite no's....I called Mindy and I am getting ready to take the dog to her house. She lives on a small farm and keeps her pets in the house at night...wants him to be able to run the property and stuff.
I do not think this could have worked out much better.....plus if she ends up not being able to handle him ,the lady at the shelter has a friend that she thinks would love to have him.:p

Nice. Ya done a good thing there. Shelters are kind of hard edge when it comes to pit bulls, or anything they think looks like a pit bull. Glad you spared him the gas chamber, and found a good home for him. Attaboy!!!
