I understand what you are saying but no government is giving up what ever info they have on people. Those files that are supposed to be destroyed have been copied numerous times and entered into data banks that they can access anytime they want. The info may not be entirely accurate in a matter of days but it still tells them who had what up until then and they can use that to project patterns of ownership and such. Not saying they will ever use it, but they will never get rid of it either. Just sayingOriginally posted by stefan View PostNot sure what your getting at but our current government has been against the registry since it was created by the previous liberal government in the mid nineties.
Bill C-19 which was passed by parliament shuts down the registry and specifically requires the data to be disposed of. The registry was operated by a separate entity, the CFC. They are legally bound to destroy the data, as a bill passed in parliament is law.
But, even if the data were to remain it is useless already, you couldn't get in the door at some gun stores today, guns were flying off the shelves, all without the government knowing. I myself have already sold a gun and ordered two others. The data is useless already, less than 24 hours later.

if you think they did the same with their documents you are mistaken....Originally posted by stefan View PostIt is a huge day in Canada, at 12:01 this morning the federal long gun registry was shut down by our Conservative government. Words cannot express how happy I am
The government will no longer know what/how many guns you own. Purchasing a gun will be as simple as cash& carry.

I see your exuberance, but I'm not sure I would've burned the documents in case they change their mind

How is the murder, assult & burgelery stats since you lost your rights to privately own firearms? Its hard to belive a freedom loving country like Australia could let that happen to them. Sorry, I'm a staunch defender of our 2nd Admendment, & a NRA member. You are more than welcome here, any time mate!
