  • Forgive me brethren...

    ... for I have sinned...

2000, 2000SPI motor, auto trans, very clean inside and out. I haven't taken it too far apart yet but it looks like a broken TB, and unfortunately this a "crash" engine (as one of our old members used to say). Pulled the spark plugs and #3 looks like it got smacked lol. Don't know if I'm going to try to rebuild or just drop a motor in it, I have a line on a 120K one for $200. But wifey is happy with it, for the price and overall condition we were ok with it not being a hatchback.
    No festiva for me ATM...

Wifeys car, plus we need it on the road quick, don't really wanna do a swap unless it would be like doing as b6 in a festy, just drop in and go. From what I've learned though that is not the case with the Zetec. I'm guessing what has happened is it dropped a valve seat on #3 as I've heard thats a common problem with the SPIs and the engine does have close to 200k on it). If the cylinder wall isn't scarred we'll probably just get a jy head to rebuild, throw it on, and drive it.

My parents bought a 01' focus ZX3 back when it was brand new, zetec 5 speed, last year they gave it to my brother for when he got his drivers license then he later crashed it, so its now a parts car for his 02' ZX5

I don't know about the SPI's but the zetec's are decent engines and all around are decent cars, so good buy :thumbright:

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

The trans in that ZX3 is the MTX-75, also good. The Quaif diff for that is pretty reasonable too, but his ZX5 is prolly a autotrans.

Well, the graveyards are full of the spi engines, so another head for that should be easy to find, just remember to look at the odometers first and get a fresh one.

The wife sinned last april after driving a festiva for 20 years she bought a focus coupe and parked Jewel outside where it still sits with all new parts. I think Im going to have to buy it ( Jewel ) from her.

Lol well at least none of our fests are getting shelved for it. Only reason her two fests are gonna be off the road is for a rebuilt motor in babystiva and of course the G4A in Green Car :-) Other than that they will still be "WD"s lol weekly drivers, not everyday but at least once or twice a week. If Green Car performs like I want her too she may even be back in my pizza lineup lol.

I would not drop another SPI in...

Agreed on the crappy quality point.. I worked on multiple ones when I was working at the body shop in KC, wasn't impressed with them at all really, especially the later gen ones before the current platform.
