The crew assembled aboard the Lets Go today and cleared the Saint Lucie Inlet around 0720. We were greeted with 3-5 seas today. The dominate wave period was 12 seconds which makes the ride a lot more enjoyable!
Stopped at a few buoys to try and pick some live bait, but no luck. Stopped at a few more wrecks in the vicinity, but again no luck. Looks like we're trolling today!
We put the 5 line spread out in 80' of water and at 125' starboard side daisy chain goes off! After a 15minute fight I managed to get the fish to the boat. Bonita! Yuck!
Twenty minutes later in 175' the blue skirted ballyhoo line got slashed. Sailfish usually slash their kill with their bills and stun them, then come right back for the rest. We seen the sail come up and slash the bait so we Immediately opened the bail and gave him some slack and 5 seconds later WHAM! This guy nails the bait and gave us a heck of a dancing show jumping out of the water and dancing along the waters edge with his tail. After 25 minutes of fighting tommy grabbed the gloves and grabbed the leader. We de-hooked him, and brought em aboard and quickly snapped a quick picture of him, revived him and sent him on his way. This baby was 65-70lbs and had to be 7 feet long from bill to tail. Check out the smile on my face hahahaha. And of course when you catch your first sail you must take the mandatory plunge into the ocean!
There was no way I would of been able to hold this thing by myself!
I should be able to get some more pics as soon as Bo emails me.
