  • My birthday, dang it!!

Okay, I told everybody I was gone on the 3rd, no reason why, just part of the 4th. But it's my birthday so everybody expects me to head to the mountain
trails but guess what?? You all go to pick and pulls all the time and I have to
do all the leg work for customers by phone while slapping gears in a tranny
or a head gasket in some subie rod....sorry guys but the 3rd I am going to be
    the complaining beeotch!!

I went to Pelican and it was like a walk back in time! Opel gt's, old pick ups,
rx7's, geo metro's out the backside, LOL nobody loves them!

So, what is in this for birthday boy? I know all their is to know almost about
day to day shop repair, but looking at mazda's and aspires as optional parts are
not day to day repairs...Yes, I am WAY out of my occupational comfort zone.

Some of you JY conversion experts have suggested the 1.6 or better.

I found lots of the 1.6 16 valve engines all at core prices, I would need to check oil and coolant looks and make the best choice. About 10 California 16valve B6.

I found some 8 valve B6 but they had parts removed and indicated that
thew reason they were there was ENGINE FAILURE.

Out of 10 plus escorts the one GT was missing the 1.8, pic of the tranny
    in the pass.seat below.

I found some unmarked no hood stickers Protege engines, I will post pics
    below.

All the engines are no guarantee core price, mainly cause of age, I will
look in valve cover, coolant and anything else to access condition
    before negotiating.

This makes the price enough less than craigs list that the game is
    worth playing.

    so.. here are the pic's!!

The above gets my attention but it is out of a 96 626..and no ID or hood sticker.
    2.5 V6..
I love the looks of this engine, no ID, no stickers, car marked Protege 96

    Carb gas tanks, darn !!!

    Tan interior stuff scattered around

    2 88 festy carbies

Aspires, one with core engine and auto attached.

    Escort GT, engine missing!!!!

    Good hood pic carbie

    Lots of california 16v 1.6..

Okay, is there problems with the SOHC 1.6 california engine? I have lots of core engines(cheap no warranty) they were junk!! MX3, Protoget.

I have 1.6 8 valves, but all have parts removed, none ready to go.

I have 3 B3"s, all core and missing some parts, 2 88 carbies, and one
    aspire.

    The two other Unknowns..?

    That one really looks hot.

This one is missing some stuff, but no ID ???

Comments? Tranny's in pics, any good?

One with 4sp OD, worth getting?
Should I just get a donor car?

Yes, I have all the factory knowledge and info but when it
comes to conversions I need your advice!!

I have two festies, One red and 250K but great shape, One white
but uses a lot of oil and rough idle. That one does not need power,
just good running and economy, the red one will need lots of torque
for off road, but runs good now!

WOW SO MUCH COOL STUFF! I wish the junk yards here had HALF that much mazda stuff!

IMO, the best thing you could do is get a whole donor car and park it somewhere, the best place for spare parts is under the hood! Your going to end up needing this and that here and there, and all that little stuff will add up if you have to piece it all together like I'm doing.

The 96 protege should be a BP, I think they went to the z motors in 97, but the 95-96 bps were obd2, so the whole wiring harness, ecu, disty,... and all the electronics would be junk.

    go for the KL!

The 2 KL's really cover some real estate!
My 289 with GT 4V heads would fit easier!!

That thing with the tubular intake is a 96 1.8 ?

That would be cool, but unlike bunches of 1.6 at core price
that is a one only. I could check it out good but it would have
to be worth it to use it.

All morning..rust free cars. Going to the crusher..
The new guy my buddy hired for the old car yard
likes to give me sheet about that...

Two unknown to me look similar, both with header intake.
If I have a back up core that might make it worth while..
        core=$200 no warranty...
10 or more 1.6 16 valve Cali engines make it tempting to go that
way but the new guy said they break heads, and are junk engines
in his opinion. Mine, I have seen a few head gaskets , nothing more.
Heck, I would really be interested in the head only on my B3's !!!
The red car if left a B3 with or without a 16v head may see a small
turbo for low end torque before long, I have all the stuff, just need the
time slot to do it. Well, mostly, turbo, intercooler, piping, but will need
drain back, and adapters, for air and oil!

O, I didn't notice that first pic of the 96 1.8 had a tubular intake.. check wiki!

          1995–1999 – 1.8 L (1,800 cc) BP, FI, 16-valve DOHC, 131 hp (98 kW; 133 PS) / 118 lb·ft (160 N·m)

I didn't read that, I just skimmed, read it through to make sure that's the right motor in the right car for USDM..
