I tried the front part of the Escort console today and when in 1/3/5 the shifter is pushing the console forward and there really isn't anywhere for it to go. I'll have to investigate farther.

Put it in 1st, then see what happens in 2nd. You can make it work, others have with no problems. I had to play around with the Protege console, & Escort console is simular. You can do it.

Awesome!!! So glad I you did that. I have been considering trying something like that and now I see that it can be done! Did you have any issues with the shifter being in 1st/3rd/5th? My shifter seemed to be hitting the console an it was actually stopping it from going into gear. I imagine I can adjust the console a bit to make it fit, but that was just something I first noticed when I was testing it out today.

ToSloTrk, That looks awesome! Great job! I wonder if that could be done with an automatic Festiva. I'd like to put that in Rosie.

Yup......................was a make it fit project.
If I remember correctly I notched the shifter hole in the console a bit to clear the shifter.

It's a total "make it fit" project. I had to customize the console mounts and cut up the top front corner of the cubby to get it positioned correctly. The cubby has the mounting bracket removed and is held i place by the console.

I'll have to devote some time to making it work one weekend.

With the hybrid GT/Festy console, do the drinks sit deeply in the console or are they sitting higher up?
My other question is, what year is the console from as i have seen a 92 that looks a lot like this as was wanting to be sure as your's looks like a very good fit indeed, however i would go to the length of fibreglassing it to look factory (well as close to as possible).

my main reason for this is i have a tendancy to drive around corners sliding and was curious to wonder if this project was good enough for me or am i going to need deeper drink holders.

^ If you worry about cups overturning just get the console from a '90s Mazda Protege. Cups can't overturn in them unless you go upside down.
