  • Prettystiva almost home...

    My Dad and I went up to Zoomzoom's today to get Prettystiva. Put a bit more air in the tires, checked the oil, and hit the road. (BTW, it's a real nice two hour drive from Cowlumbus to Zoomzoom's area!)

    Pretty drove well, pretty well! She does have a high clutch pedal and her front bushings are a bit old and soft, but nowhere near as soft as Aqua when I first drove her home. And Codex took a lot better care of Prettystiva than Aqua's previous owner. No problems on the trip home and she did over 65 a couple times on the interstate. Smooooth, and she has a CD player/radio!

    Here we are almost halfway home:

    Left her at my parents' place and I'll take the bus in the next few days and drive her HOME.

    I'll give another BIG THANKS to Zoomzoom Matt for allowing me to leave her at his place for a couple months!

    Karl

          Took the bus ride to my parents' this morning and brought her back after breakfast:

          I'm looking closer at her interior now and I'm very pleased:

          The only tear I see on the seats is the very bottom side of the driver's seat, which is a normal high-wear and tear area. There is also what looks like a cig burn hole on the driver's floor carpet. That's all I see for now.

          Today I used a lot of PB Blaster and worked on the hatch and passenger side door locks. The door, which is the only one Matt used, improved. The hatch lock now works pretty well too. I also used two plastic license plate bolts to finally attach the front plate. I tried several times to fit metal bolts or screws but none would work.

          Here's what 4 and 2/3 Festivas looks like in my back yard!:

          In the foreground is Twinstiva, who was t-boned two winters ago. The others, left to right, are:

          My two '93GLs, Luxtiva (red ATX with B6) and Prettystiva (MTX);
          AquaMutt, my 80% rebuilt '91L work car with B6 and 5 speed;
          The "2/3" part is played by my first love and first Aspire swap, Muttstiva ('89L 5 speed).

          One will be parked out front with a huge old luxury car behind it to block sideswipes.

          Lotta work yet to do. For now,happy though!

              Charlie, I'll probably do bodywork for now and use her as backup car this winter. Then in spring she'll probably get the B6ME (88hp stock) that came with her. Initial plan is to do a little engine work for around 94 to 100 hp and then maybe a rear turbo or cheap, simple small turbo with maybe 4# boost for a total of 114 to 124 hp. Aspire swap also intended, and so far I have under $1K in her. (I hope to keep the finale under $2K or so, not including turbo work.)

              Her current B3 ticks a lot but doesn't seem to affect anything. She drives well and feels fine. I'm not pressing performance though Easy driving is the rule, and only around the city!

              I think she'll become my "comfy, long trip car" when I don't need to haul stuff. I'll keep her four passenger. My laziness is the only thing holding me back.

                Sounds great. The B3 may quiet down with a couple of oil changes, mine did. They seem particularly sensitive to oil. Looking forward to seeing her (and you of coarse) at Madness next year!

                  She should be ready for the next Madness. I hope!

                  Oil is nasty black right now. I'll be changing it in the next few days, as soon as a nice day presents itself. Coolant is murky gummy looking too. (Could be some stop leak was added at some point. Hope nothing lets go when I change it!)

                  I got all door locks working now. The driver's side will only unlock, but that's all I need on that side. Need new gas door lock. This one looks like it came off the Titanic. The key turns it, but the latch part doesn't move so it's useless.

                  All in good time!

                    Here's a tip Karl, I used a thick rubber o-ring as a lock gasket on my fuel door. This stops the annoying buzzing if you don't have a good gasket (they are all rotted away here in the desert). You can do this when you replace the lock assembly. Also, from what I have seen, the gas door locks aren't as key specific as the other locks on the car, so just about any festiva lock should work. All my festiva keys open all my festiva gas doors.

                      Haha, its really weird, some parts of the cars, yours and my aspire, are like super rusted out and just nasty, other parts are fine, like they were cleaned thoroughly and completely stripped of the oils.

                          Thanks Dave!

                          Matt, the worst example of nice vs. rusted I've ever seen was on an Aspire rear axle. One side looked like it had just been done a month or two ago, while the other side was totally rusted and dirty. Either someone had found roads with salt on only one side or they had only had one half of their drum brakes done.
