Well the babyspire kinda let me down today. I can't really blame her though, its my fault, she needed some new shoes and I just kept driving it anyway. I drove on a busted band for about 2 months now and it finally bit me in the butt.

About 4:45 this morning I was doing 65+ on my way to work when this happened.. my boss ended up comming to get me so I wouldn't be late for work. Hopefully WV doesn't tow my car, I left a note saying I'd have it cleared out by 4-5pm.

We had a gas load to deliver this morning, that's always rush rush so gas stations don't run out of gas...I didn't have time to change it.

Been looking into optional tire sizes, I think I want to try a 185/55/14 instead of 185/60/14's, IF I can find them locally. Next choice will be a 175/65/14. Really I want a skinny tire(175) with low profile(55-60) in 14", but I doubt that will ever happen. Gotta make some phone calls..

Couldn't really find any of the odd size tires I wanted, so I drove on my spare set and finally somehow I found these sitting on a rack in the back of a tire shop Haha.. I got a super sweet deal on these too...

2 are 195/45/14 toyo proxes T1R, they went on the rear
2 are 195/45/14 falken zeix 912's, they went up front

The deal was the tires mounted and balanced, when I went to check the tire pressure I noticed he even installed new valve stem seals LOL...and he kept my old tires!!!! They were pretty much done anyway, probably could have got another year out of them but they weren't worth getting them mounted on another rim.

He also told me the rims are still straight, so that's awesome! Got half the neighborhood in the car, they helped me mow/weed eat and clean the rims up today so I took them for a ride on the new tires.

image.jpgLoving the new tires! One of the falkens needed aired up but the rest seem to be holding a consistent 35/36 psi. The one slow leaker only leaks about 5 psi every other week. Not bad compared to what I was dealing with.

Took the babyspire for a ride up to the Festiva Revival Center yesterday and dragged the trailer along. Still no deck on it but I wanted to test my hitch and see how it did on long trips. Bearings did good, tires need replaced, neither one is good and one leaks a lot of air lol. Rode good tho, couldn't even tell it was there, and I still netted 28.2 mpg there and back!! Not bad at all considering that's an average for city driving, and I'm running 194/45/14's. Wonder what a little weight on there will do to it haha..

'80s 323s and 626s have the compatible intermittent wiper switches. You can identify them by the similar square stalk. IIRC the 323 one is single-speed intermittent, and the 626 one is variable-speed intermittent. The 626 ones tend to have cruise-control on the end; you just cut one wire (I forget the color) to get it out of the way. I have installed them on two or three Festys. It's not just the stalk, you have to replace the whole square electrical piece that the stalk bolts to. Easiest if you pull the steering wheel and remove the whole turn signal/wiper assembly as a unit, but not strictly necessary.

Also figured out the festy and aspire multifunction switches are not compatible, two totally different beasts.

Can't remember where I left off with this thread but I took a load of scrap in today with this trailer and made some money. The car did great, there's a really steep hill mountain and I hit the bottom at 65, got to the top and was doin 35 lol. She did great as far as stopping and going other than that on hill.

Top speed was 67 according to the GPS, probably that hill but might have been the 6 miles on I77?

After the scrap yard I went and grabbed a Festiva engine from a junk yard haha.. It's in my driveway. Junk and I'm just gonna keep the head and make some Chevy shift knobs with the pistons...

Anyway, pics!!

The scale kept bouncing between 3600 and 3620, they have me credit for the 3620. I was sitting in the car the whole time and on top of all this, I had tools+ a whole set of tires in the back seat so the weight of the car+trailer is no where near close.

Lol mine either! I was over 100 lbs short and I loaded it!
