  • "Simplicity" Festiva

    Sooo.....
I wanted to fix some rust and dents in my teal Festiva and got to thinking of a possible color change.

Unfortunately I didn't take any "during" pics of the amount of metal that needed replaced. I can tell you that it took the better part of (2), 3'x4' sheets of metal to patch the holes.

I still have the bumpers and wheels to finish but here's a before and an after pic.

Ah, Troy-bilt. I like the contrast. Please post some profile shots!

edit: nevermind, simplicity. definitely reminds me of troy-bilt though!

Yup, "Simplicity" inspired scheme. i have 3 mowers and thought "why not".

Profile shots will have to wait. Still need to do the wheels so they can be put back on. I'm hoping to have the wheels blasted next week but working 2 jobs seems to take up a bit of my time...LOL.

Nice work. When I saw Simplicity I had to look. I have the '62 725 my dad bought new. Cant wait to see the all done pics. Looks great so far. I like how you did the two tone line. I did mine above the the door handles but wish I'd gone below like you did.

David88. Thanks. I've always been kinda partial to Simplicitys. Had a few others but just not quite the same parts and customer support.

Euro. Thanks. My first attempt at the "$30 paint job".

The white is "antique white" oil based enamel from the local hardware store. The orange is Allis Chalmers oil based tractor paint from Tractor Supply.

Still needs a little bit of sanding and buffing but overall I'm pretty happy with it.

              Looking good!

I like the contrast, too. 'Simple' but eye-catching. Anxious to see your completed work.

Need to get body work and a paint job on mine. Got clipped by someone about 3 years ago and dented the right rear quarter panel above the wheel and the paint job is not about 11 or 12 years old. Got a quote from a friend to do it all for about $1300, including clear coat. Ouch.

                        Thanks everyone.

The "project" took a LOT longer than expected.

Kept coming across more rust the further I went into it. Upon removing the rear bumper, there was hardly anything holding it together, beam wise. Fortunately we have an 8' metal brake at work so I fabbed up a new inner beam.

It's not perfect but I'm not taking it to Cobo Hall, just trying to preserve it.
