Poor little groundhog, I hope you didn't scare it too badly ! He looks terrified and lonely and probably doesn't have any friends. I just feel horrible about this. Knowing that you live in the country I can imagine that you're having a tough time 'talking cute' about chucks with your tongue planted firmly in a cheek.

Even the wheels were ruined and the porkies had had the odd 'lifter' when a tire blew in their faces and some discomfort when the oil lines, hydraulics and battery case began to leak.

You don't want to leave any sweat-stained (shovels/rakes/axes etc) articles out where where porkies can find them. My biology Prof at university accidently left a dbl barrel 12 ga up against a tree overnight. The gun belonged to the university and he sheepishly returned a metal and kindling item back to Stores.

12 gauge would work but it is funner to sit back at 300 yards or so so that you can see the red mist in the scope. Current poison is a swift.

Yessiree 220 Swift was the fastest commercial 0.224" bullet for about 1/2 a century. Reknowned early on for exploding upon contact with blades of grass and raindrops, and wearing out rifle barrels. Whoever coined the term "purple haze" must have been a colour-blind gopher hunter that used one.
I still prefer 22 CB long (out to 50 yards). First shot causes them to stand up to look around and the second gives 'one' of them ample time to go back underground so as not to litter or stink up the property.
