Went fishing....

Today I went fishing at a place called Busch Wildlife (yeah I know the jokes will follow). Took the girlfriend with and going to try for Bluegill and maybe a Bass or 2.

I was pitching my "special custom" Bass spinnerbait around, made like 2 casts and ...WHAM!!!!

.... a 7 pound Channel Catfish hit my spinnerbait so hard, it really, almost jerked the rod out of my hand!!!

Man, He HAMMERED it!

I was standing on a dock, and when it hit, it pulled my rod straight down as it made a bulldog run under the dock.
I've never had a fish hit so hard. ....and i've caught a few big fish ...

Funny thing is, before I got that one, I got his cousin, about 15 minutes before and about a pound smaller, on a cricket!

All is I can say is.....I liked it! :highly_amused: It was fun.

Well at least when you say 7 lb cat I figure you're not stretching the truth much or at all. Up here you know you've got a channel cat at the end of the line when it suddenly 'heads out to sea' at a consistent slow speed and trying to hang on to it or reel it in is like tugging at a car battery. And this is 5 pounders! They've got incredible of torque in those engines!
Imagine latching on to a cat in the Amazon River where some tropical versions of them get up to 1000 lb. I remember seeing 6 footers for sale at the fish market in Leticia.

Also caught a 16" bass, a 10" crappie, and 7 hand size bluegill, all on crickets. Nobody else was catching much. :toothy8:

You bet! The bluegill and crappie are the best tasteing. They are already gone.

The cats I will bake with a recipe I picked up from another fisherman a while back.

Cats taste like chicken, providing the water they were in is not too warm or muddy. Around here guys drive a spike through a board and impale the head of the cat on it so they can peel the skin off first.

Screw that. Too much work. I fillet everything, even the catfish.

I start with a "manual" fillet knife, cut alongside the backbone, starting at the head, down to the dorsal fin. Then around the "Y" bone with the fillet knife, then grab my electric fillet knife, lift the flap of meat cut previously with the manual fillet, then run the electric down the side of the fish, as you would any other fish. Presto! A boneless, skinless fillet. banana time
