      That sweet corn looks great.

Just last week I canned four quarts of green/yellow beans, blanched, vacuum packed and froze another 10 quarts of green/yellow beans. Pickled 6 pints of green/yellow beans. Made six pints of kosher dill pickles. Blanched, vacuum packed , and froze three quarts of yellow squash. I've got two one hundred foot rows of potatoes that have withered back and should be ready to dig soon. Probably going to start cutting the corn off the cob and freezing it, it only has a shelf life of a couple of days after you pick it. The sugar content deteriorates quickly and flavor suffers. We've only had a trace of rain the past month and the tomatoes are wilted some. Id like to can some stewed tomatoes and make some tomato sauce and paste if it rains soon. This stuff sure is good in the winter months.

looks awesome, i remember these "garden" threads from a few years ago where i was jealous of all the space people had. Well now we bought a new house with a big yard. Last fall we planted 1000+ cloves of garlic to sell at the farmers market. first market was today, good times.

            everybody likes pictures

these are one variety of the cloves i planted, its an heirloom variety called siberian purple stripe, big hit at the farmers market because they look cool all splotched with purple and pink. also planted elephant garlic and california garlic.

the garlic couldn't wait and popped up even though winter was still here... haha

the purple stripe starting to flower.

ready for market. Obviously this isnt all of them, i still have a million heads to dig up but its been hot and im old and lazy.

Fresh, I'm glad to see you haven't joined the "peaches & cream" set. I love the older varieties of yellow corn. There was one variety I haven't seen or experienced in about 10 years called "tuxedo" that made for a one cob meal, they were so thick and rich.

I'm jealous !! I planted a lot of garlic this year and it all came up then withered. Seems like garlic is an ingredient in every recipe, what's your secret ?

I'm guilty of an ear or two of peaches and cream.

This mornings harvest I shared some produce not pictured with the neighbors and they in turn gave me some blackberries, gingered apple sauce, and smokey lodi. Man I love breaded fried okra

I wish I had my own backyard to plant in.

I too would love to grow my own garden.

It's on my to-do list later in life when I have a backyard.

Right now there is a small patch of dirt out back of my apt patio

I'm going to talk to the owner and ask if I can use it for a mini garden.

It's only about 5 feet by 2 feet wide.

I could probably fit something in there.
                      Maybe...

Thanks ! Yeah a garden is like a second job, lots of work. I've been processing food most of the day and I'm still not done. My okra didn't produce anything last year. A extreme drought and rabbits were to thank. This year I've gotten a little more rain and planted the okra inside a protected area. Last year I plant a 100' row, this year I've got a dozen plants which will still be a lot of okra, hopefully.

No secret really, garlic is very forgiving, it can take cold spells, droughts, and even tons of weeds. However one thing i noticed with your reply is you said you planted this year, so im assuming this spring? If thats the case your garlic will not do well. without getting too technical i'll say that garlic needs to be planted in the fall and sits in the ground over winter through a process call "vernalization" The easy way to remember is plant around halloween and harvest on the 4th of july. It also likes really good dirt, i dumped 3 truckloads of compost in my spot. If you do it this way it will be the first thing popping up in the spring and should do very well. Good luck!

^ Yes I did plant it in the spring. So do you think mine is gone or will it winter over like a bi-annual and come up again next spring ? It looked like in some of your pictures that the garlic was going to seed, is that a normal result of a Halloween planting for a fourth of July harvest ? I know my soil is lacking phosphate, I'm trying to amend it. My last soil test was three years ago prior to liming so I'll give it a couple of years and test it again.
