My old (25 years) portable compressor gave out so I had to go get a new one. The Home Depot salesman found a mismatched Christmas special demo in the wrong box and offered it at a bargain price of $159 for the compressor and the two larger ( 16g & 18g ) nailers. Bought the smaller ( 23g ) nailer and ammo at retail. New tool porn below.

Used to be Porter-Cable made first class industrial quality stuff. I notice they've been bought out by Black & Decker not too long ago! Hopefully the quality hasn't suffered.

Yeah I don't know about quality, but the price was right. I really don't have a brand preference although I've have used a Porter Cable framing nailer ( center in picture ) for approx. 15 years. The only issue I've had with it was a couple of jams using it in sub-zero temps. I was never impressed with the black and decker products I've owned. I think selling both kitchen appliances and garage tools is spreading yourself too thin. Hopefully they don't take the same route Troy Bilt did when they were acquired by MTD in 2001. Troy Bilt went from top of the line to junk.

Unfortunately many reputable names have gone this route. Skil was one, Maytag is another one. So is Delta. Am not looking forward to the day that Milwaukee starts making "expendable" tools. B&D (did you know, besides Porter-Cable, they also own deWalt?) did make various grades of power tools 30-40 years ago and their commercial/industrial purpose ones were pretty darn good. Then all of a sudden Makita Electric Corp of Japan came along with their blue/green-coloured goodies to spell the end of the domestic high-end power tool industry. Ergonomics and price of these upstarts was excellent and 32 years later I still have every last Makita tool (15 of them) that I've ever bought. They introduced a small lightweight single-hand-carry contractor tablesaw in 1985 (everyone makes some sort of version of them now) and mine has been going non-stop without major problems all this time. It's rather primitive compared to newer stuff but the bearings are still tight and the table is still true.

                        I've got a Ranchero. It's a '68 and sadly it's wreaked. All original though

Thanks, we did have to replace lumber in the eaves such as the sub fascia, fascia, and soffits. We also replaced a lot of stringers on the roof and sides. Other than that the old native lumber had held up pretty good. Some of the rafters were walnut. The building does have a 3" lean to the north which made it a little tricky to square up on the corners. The metal will hide a lot of faults. One corner also had a serious droop we corrected and reinforced.
