i don't know how much it would cost to import one. i know a place
that imports older style Toyota vans to Canada from Japan, because
they all have such low miles on them. maybe they could give you
              some accurate estimate.

i was looking at Mini's from Australia and shipping to LA was about 2k.
              not so bad really.

I'd take some of those low mileages with a pinch of salt :!:

When I lived in Hong Kong I saw many "low mileage" cars and motorcycles that must have had severe "haircuts"

If you're in western Canada, there's a company in Calgary. Their website is http://importconcern.ca

They overcharge a little, but if you want a Japanese car, it's one way to go.

Overall the costs aren't that high. I have a friend that imports cars monthly. His last personal ride was a Toyota Soarer TT 2.5 GT. The car was mint and it cost him $4500cdn, plus about $1000 for shipping. Smaller cars can be shipped cheaper, since more of them will fit in a container.

He's currently planning to bring in the small roadster stuff like the Suzuki Cappuccino and the Honda Beat.
