Finally found something decent for cheap and snapped it up!
It's an 86 Mazda 323 SS. It's got the B6 SOHC 8v 1.6 injected engine and a 5spd. 3dr hatch. Because it's the SS, it's got nice ARB's, etc. as standard.
Cost me a whopping AU$250!!!
Picked it up after paying for a 28 day permit (as it had no registration). Drove it home and my god, this thing goes good, stops great, no play in steering and it drives in a straight line when ya take ya hands off the wheel!
The day after I got some oil and an oil filter and headed over to see a mechanic mate, who let me use a hoist.
Got the thing up in the air and you wouldn't believe it, someone has spend some dosh on this in the past! It's got Nolathane bushes throughout. The rear shocks are brand new and the fronts aren't old. The brake pads are 90% and rotors fine. Never been in a prang. I was stoked! I changed the oil on the hoist as the position of the damn oil filter could prove to be a problem on the ground. The fuel filter looks new and the air filter is new, so no need to replace them. Still havn't got around to changing plugs yet. Tyres are 80% and aren't cheapies (Dunlop LeMans), which is good because they are a rareish size (185/60/R14).
Here are some pix of my beastie. Note that pic 6 is of the switch panel for the adjustable dampers it had when new. The dampers in there now aren't adjustable ones as they would of been too costly to replace. Just something kewl for a car of 1986!

And some pix of the start of the diet program! Not sure if it will do much as it seemed like alot of nothing weight parts coming out, but i'm sure it all adds up and it damn looks the part!

I will be competing in the local motorsport club's autocross/khanacross series. It's different to what you call autocross in the USA as it's on a dirt track. Best way to describe it is a gravel rally but on a closed circuit. Check out www.gmsc.com.au for more info on my racing.
