I just installed a console with cup holders, let me no what u think, there is a gap between the bottom of the ash tray and the console, any suggestions on how to fill it in or just leave it?

i dont know, thats the part i didnt like also. only thing i thought
of was attaching a piece of rubber at the bottom. maybe the gap
wouldnt be so obvious. the console looks good on your car though.

I thought of a piece of rubber or gray carpet to fill in with.

that looks great! why is the shift boot all stretched looking? is the shifter too tall? and was it fairly easy to do?

yes i did paint it with interior vinyl paint ,charcoal gray, and i also cut the shifter down about an inch so now the boot dont looked stretched and is was easy to do, i got the console out of a 93 escort 5 speed and there was also a little bracket i took off the car too. Before u new it i had cup holders.

Thats where i was always putting my cups, and then it happened, a paper cup from burger king crushed and the lid flew off and the cup went tumbling in the floor, it was then i new i would have a cupholder.

Hhehehe Im with you ajb999!! That's a good spot for a cup, or my girlfriend took the ash tray out of the parking brake console, about where your elbow would be, and we can fit cups into there as well.

I have this console in my car also. Came out of about the same year Escort 5 speed. I've never really finished it out, though. The console just sits there kind of loose and the shift boot isn't connected to the knob like it should be because of the same stretch problem you mentioned.

When you say you cut the shifter down, do you mean you cut the shift lever itself? If so, what did you do to connect the knob to the lever? I know that, in my Fest at least, there are threads for the knob to screw on to.

I didn't even think to look for a bracket out of the escort. The car was pretty well trashed at the salvage yard so the bracket is probably still there. How did it bolt into the Festiva?

                            Thanks!

Yes i cut the shifter lever down about a half of an inch , that leaves enough threads to put the escort shifter knob on and also it keeps the boot from getting stretched, i took the brace that went from the dash to floor off, but the bottom one i left in the festiva i just redrilled the holes on the console to match , the other bracket came from the escort, it is a smaller bracket i mounted it to the fronts bolts that hold the shifter to the floor, then i marked and drilled the holes for it as well. Here is a better pic.
