Well since he used a taurus drivetrain (non sho) all were automatic as far as I know. It's just what was available at the time.

You're right only the SHO came with a stick and those are rare and won't bolt to the regular Taurus engine.

There was a Taurus in the mid 80's called a MT-5 that was a 4cyl with a 5 speed.
