  • Pictures of the 1.8 SOHC into 97 5sp Aspire sorry no 56k

Needs a full wiring harness from the donor 91 protege, and a manual oil pan. I see a lot more nickle and diming in my future but as far as i know no one else runs this engine. There is no clearance of the firewall to that intake, so i need to bend the brake line bracket somewhat and a few other prybar mods. I have not decided on the festiva light flywheel yet. It is still in mockup stage as the passenger mount isnt working yet.

Is these engine easy swap in and without messing with firewall? I wonder how much HP it does have it much close to like 1.8L BP DOHC?

Maybe 110 hp for the b8 compared to 127 for the bp

I'll be picking up one of these this afternoon if all goes well. I may have a couple questions for you. What you have so far looks good, can't you just drill a new hole for the pass side engine mount bolt? It looks like it fits in the notch just fine, just needs another hole further over.

Wow, great job so far. This looks identical to the b5. Even the rocker cover is the same! I had always thought that the 1.8 had the same dimentions to the 1.5, only bigger internally?

Yeah thats what we plan on doing is drilling a new hole for the passenger motor mount. I think the wiring is going to be a pita though because we going from OBD2 to OBD1. A lot of the disty, throttle body have more wires and different plug styles. Plus we wanted to get rid of all the aigbags, sensors, and all the other jibberish uner the hood. BTW hp output is 103 and tq 110

You can do the swap of a head from a BP05 dual overhead, just have to change out the water pump belt tensioners, and a couple other things

Does anyone know if switching from OBD-II to OBD-I will result in poorer fuel economy?

I'm interested in the ramifications of the "newer engine" swap, especially for the Z5 1.5 DOHC engine.

This is really interesting, especially that right side motor mount. Is it really as simple as a new hole?

The Z5, having DOHC, will probably be harder though. Different mount, like the other DOHCs, I think.

Yeah its a different mount setup. I would think that you would have to do one of the no weld mounts or something to that effect. The whole problem with going from obd2 to obd1 is the crankshaft position sensor. Maybe the z5 dohc had it i don't know?? Plus the z5's are pretty hard to come by here in cali in JY's.

Thanks WES. I have a lot to learn before seriously contemplating a Z5 swap.

I also noticed the throttle entry is on the side, unlike the 1500, which goes over the rocker cover.
Stupid q- do all the b series have the oval port heads?

^^^ nope they don't... the only ones I know of that do are the 1.8s, although we don't have the 1.5 here in the US so it might be oval too, I don't really know.
