  • Turtle rescue

So I was driving home today and noticed a turtle in the road close to the middle line....looked like it was just sitting there so I turned around to try and save it...picked it up real quick and drove to a marshy area....took the turtle as close to the water as I could get when I noticed it had blood trickling out of its mouth but it was acting like it wanted to get ccrawling...also noticed a small crack in the underneath of it's shell. I set it down and snapped some pics as it crawled away...very fast after it got moving , for a turtle....lol. I took a vid to but it got corrupted. I know some will not care but I know some here love animals like I do so I thought I would post it......it actually starts at the bottom...

When I drove a truck , I seen one about that size , I stopped on the shoulder , put him in a box and brought him home .

An old lady once told me "the more people I meet......the more I like animals!"

I've been using that quote ever since.......good job I am like you...I'd stop in a heartbeat.

I knew people that saved all of the turtles they found on roads and brought them
home to their brick fence'd in backyard and had a cool little turtle sancturary.

          TURTLE!!! TURTLE!!!

I have done the same thing before! I like turtles, I raised painted turtles at one time! Got them when they were abot the size of a quarter and raised them to about 4-5 inches before letting them go in the park. There is a pond there that has to have 100 turtles in it!

On my way home from getting DJ's car in Texas, I was driving along and saw a tiny tutle trying to get across the road. An 18-wheeler was ahead and to my left and the tutle ducked back into the shell, but got clipped by the semi's rear tires. He flipped up and did a big spin, I'm not real sure if he made it or not though. We were doing 75+ and I wasn't going to try stopping on the busy highway to save him after a hit like that. :\

He probably got clipped, as well.

I saved a giant snapper one time (bigger than a festy steering wheel) that had to have been literally ran over. Took him to an emergency vet who said that if he was still alive (which he was) he'd be okay. His shell was entirely crushed, but I guess they heal right up.
1990 Festiva base model 115k body, 75k engine with auto trans, paid $800. New front bearings, plugs, wires, rotor and cap and I get 40.5 mpg.

i did that before right in the middle of traffic. stopped and got out and moved it to the other side of the road. i only brake for turtles cus they have no chance.

cool .......I love it when people save turtles......their life span is over 100 years....temperature of the eggs in the ground determines the sex of the turtle...I have 6 eggs in dirt in a bowl in the house....estimated hatch day is labor day.

                              aww poor guy.
but good for you for taking the time to help!

i once saved a snapper from a busy little street by a creek outside of philadelphia. the thing looked nasty so i didnt want to put my hands anywhere near it, so i used my skateboard to sort of scoop/shoo it to the side of the road and back toward the creek - the thing snapped a 2 inch chunk out of my board!!
but we made it out of harms way, and hopefully that turtle is still alive somewhere

                              edited for language- admin.
