My cam cover was looking really sad, with the poorly powdercoated finish flaking off badly, I had it stripped and powdercoated bright red. The results are fantastic. One note though if you have this done, be sure and remove the inner baffles and blow out any sandblasting media that may remain, when you get it back from the powdercoaters, as this will quickly destroy your motor if it gets into the oil.
This is a shot of the cover again, with the crossover intake pipe, I polished it out (tons of sanding and polishing). I kind of want to go with a silver, polished aluminum, red, and black theme for the whole car.
Here we see the B6T on my engine stand almost ready to go in. I've changed the timing belt, and water pump, removed the stock engine mount, and reconfigured the alternator bracket, added a new alternator belt, put the cam cover back on, with a new gasket, and basically readied the motor to be installed in the car. A bunch of this stuff is preventative maintenance and much easier to do when the motor is out of the car. Also stuff like powder coating the cam cover, I just wanted to do to look nice but the cam cover gasket also needed replacing so I killed two birds with one stone. I also removed all the exhaust manifold nuts, coated the threads with anti-seize and re-torqued them back on. It will make future removal much easier. I also did this to the O2 sensor.
