Festiva Madness XIV! Down at the Farm!

    Saturday, October 3rd 2020
Location : Walmart Supercenter Behind Zaxbys
705 Retail Way, Louisburg, NC 27549
10AM until 2 PM! Awards at HIgh Noon!

    <<<<COVID 19 WARNING>>>>

<<<<I am putting this at the top for extra emphasis. Madness is being planned as if there will be no interruptions. We all sincerely hope there are no problems with the current pandemic by October. However, since no one has a working crystal ball, we do not know what the future holds. We will act in accordance with local laws, ordinances, and recommendations. Lockdowns, bans on large events etc could possibly cause problems, but fingers crossed, it will not be a concern. It is our opinion that if we have to wear hazmat suits to have Madness, then Hazmat suits will be worn!>>>>

FESTIVAS! GAMES! FOOD! FUN! PRIZES! AWARDS! GIFT CARDS! FESTIVAS!

Cars and people from all over the continent!

We have relocated! Over the years, we have hosted Festiva Madness at various locations around Raleigh. As the city expands, we have moved the meet from one location to another then finally landing at Snoopy’s Hotdogs. As of now, Madness Central has been relocated to Louisburg this year. So is the meet, in the downtown district.

The official meet is in the parking lot of Walmart Supercenter Behind Zaxbys. Be there at 10AM. Make sure to sign up! I can not stress this enough! Sign up for prizes, and a car number, with the mileage and build date handy! Because that is how you can win an award! High Mileage, Low Mileage and earliest build date awards as well as Best Beater and Fan Favorite are determined in part by signing up with that information! Bad luck award requires a story of your bad luck you overcame and MADE IT TO THE MEET! You can also buy tickets to vote for fan favorite and best beater. That is also when we hand the car driver a free T Shirt. SIGN UP EARLY! Also, be sure to visit Zaxby’s for lunch and get a ten percent discount.

At one, or shortly thereafter, we will hand out awards and do a group photograph(s.) Then we will keep milling around talking, having fun etc until 2 PM, unless everyone is in a tearing hurry to get back to Madness Central because of heat, rain, fun etc.

After the meet will be a cruise to the Farm AKA Madness Central. This is something we tried in the past but Raleigh traffic and lights always breaks it up, but not anymore! There are a few lights, but then we will have a pleasant cruise for about 15 minutes through rolling hills at 55MPH most of the way, until we hit the “town” of Centerville.. This way we can WOW the people of Louisburg with our wonderful little cars. If you need parts at Oreilly auto, there is a commercial account we can use to get a discount on parts. Best to get any parts before the cruise, since it is 15 minutes from Madness Central.

After that, a few of the Madness members have devised a few games that they have always wanted to play with festys at a meet but have never had the right amount of space to do this. Get your driving skills ready for some blinding fun!!

We are going to do everything exactly the way you have come to expect with wrenching, awards, the night-before cookout, Saturday night hangout and wrenching, and the Sunday breakfast buffet. We will just be doing this at a different location. This transition will also allow Barb to get less wear and tear on her house for the event. But make no mistake, the “Festiva Queen Mum” herself will still be on hand every second of this meet.

For thirteen years, she opened up her house to the Madness committee. We would swarm in, move things, rearrange, clean and prepare for the week of Festiva Family. Now, she will be the guest of honor at the farm and will be able to relax more during her much-earned retirement! Our house is her house and moving Madness Central to the farm was also part of her dream. So she is finally getting to see the dream come to reality.

Madness central has relocated to 4006 NC 58 Hwy Louisburg NC 27549. The address is actually the pallet company next door as Google Maps STILL hasn’t updated to show where we are. There will be PLENTY of signs. You won’t miss it. Satellite view is old, but it is immediately west, we almost share an entrance with them. It looks like dirt on the map, it is not like that now. It dates back to when the land was clear cut, stands out like a sore thumb. Street view is even older, by years.

For precise coordinates in google maps, search for 36.203987, -78.101476

If you have been to Madness before you already know what to expect. Tons of shenanigans, Festiva family fun and reunions galore! If you have not been to Madness just simply expect Madness in the purest sense of the word. Not to mention, the farm allows us to have more fun and events than ever before!

There is plenty of room out at the farm! Any and all of you are welcome to set up camp. We will have a camping area set up for anybody that needs it. Also a turn around spot for those with trailers, and the pallet company parking lot for loading and unloading purposes. Possibly for parking as well.

The front 16 acres of Kobayashi Maru Farms (Festy Farm) will be open to all. We will be in full Madness mode and will start accepting early-bird arrivals no earlier than Wednesday, September 30th.

There are several hotels and motels near the farm as well as several Air B and B's. The differences this year are a few. Our home will be open to anyone that needs to use the bathroom or get something to eat in the middle of the night or crash anywhere they can find a free spot. However, since we are looking at a larger area we will also be providing extra bathrooms this year. We will be having a company bring in a few extra bathrooms that will allow for easier access and less waiting for morning dooties…. I mean, duties.

We will have plenty of water bottles on hand to prevent dehydration. For the Friday night cookout before we will have a bonfire with live music. Everything about the meet will be the same...with some additions.

We will be doing a breakfast buffet Sunday morning before people head out. If you want it you are welcome to it. Nom, nom, nom!!

MOST IMPORTANTLY: THIS IS MADNESS XIV Down at the Farm!!!

We will be having a blindfolded driving contest!!! If you wish to participate, start planning now!! We will have a course set up with traffic cones. This will be a 2 person team “race.” The driver will be blindfolded with the passenger giving directions. Fastest time wins!

    What could go wrong?

Sleeping arrangements are your responsibility – Come prepared!

    Things to bring with you:
Folding chairs (Or you’ll be standing all weekend!)
Skeeter spray. This is North Carolina. We don’t grow them big enough to fly away with your car, but we have plenty of them.
Sunscreen (prepare for all weather types) Lots of wide open spaces for the weekend and usually sunny this time of year.
Camping gear if you are not staying in a hotel (tent, sleeping bag, etc)
Snacks, water, coolers -Remember, we will be at the farm!

    ALSO

We will be regularly updating the Festiva Madness website and Facebook page with itinerary and location changes(if any) etc. The forum page on Ford Festiva dot com MAY NOT HAVE THE MOST RECENT UPDATES. In particular, we are looking for a spot in case of rain. Before you head out, double and triple check those places for any updates to information. There will be driving directions, updated information, phone numbers etc. Also an updated list of awards.

    https://www.facebook.com/FestivaMadness/
    http://www.festivamadness.com/

We are also opening the meet up to the Mercury Capri guys and girls! Tell your friends in those communities about it!

This has the potential to be one of the Maddest of all Festiva Madnesses!!!

We look forward to seeing everybody! Now people, please go get your cars ready… you have a meet to experience, and awards to win!

If you have any questions feel free to message the madness page or any of the madness planning committee members. Also Festivamadness@gmail.com

Now, you know the drill. You can sign up on the forum, or simply send a message to Festivamadness@gmail.com as we will add you to the sheet ourselves. Anyone driving a Festiva, an Aspire, or a Capri gets one free shirt. Additional shirts can be ordered in advance just let us know, for $10 bucks each. Will also always print a few extra but if you don’t let us know in advance, we can’t guarantee your size will be available. XXL and up shirts are $2 extra. Also, if you are willing to help cleanup both after the meet and at the farm, just add “cleanup crew” to your signup, many hands will make light work. Especially if we all keep neatness in mind throughout the weekend. Shouldn’t take more than a few minutes each day.

Sign up below with who will be attending, and shirt size. Just copy and paste the old list, then add your name etc to the bottom.

                          Covid and Madness: A Poll

The Madness committee is faced with a tough decision and wants your input.

Continue to plan the meet as normal, or plan a WorldWide Virtual Meet, Quaranstiva?

Things to consider in this poll.

1 In the last week, due to ever rising numbers, the governor of our state extended Phase 2 until Friday September 11th. This limits crowds of outdoor meets and events to 25. That is only about 3 weeks before the meet. THIS COULD BE EXTENDED AT ANY POINT IN TIME. If it is extended, there will be no choice but to cancel the meet. Doing that at the last minute would probably make a virtual meet tough to put together.

2 Walmart management has officially informed us that they can not allow a meet of this size with current issues in mind. They welcomed us warmly prior to the Phase 2 extension and would love to have us after this crisis passes.

3 This meet requires extensive planning on most everyone's parts, from taking time off, to preparing cars, and to making travel and accommodation arrangements.

4 This decision could easily affect not only ourselves, but our communities, and families.

5 A virtual meet could be done worldwide, with Tshirts and everything else all the same, but not as a group.

So, using google forms, there is an official poll, please put your answers and thoughts there. Discussion is welcome on this thread, but officially, we will be looking at poll numbers to get a general consensus on how the community feels about this, and go from there. It does ask for an email address, we promise, we aren't using it for any nefarious purpose, and if you have attended, we probably already have it. You can even create a new one just for this. It makes it easier for us to count this way.

Please vote only once! Honor system applies.

The Madness committee has consulted with the community and had much debate about the reality that is the Covid 19 pandemic. With 3 organizers in the "compromised" category, a lack of businesses willing to let us use their parking lots due to perceptions of large groups of people gathering, an uncertain future for what phase the state of NC will be in, or what the group gathering guidelines will be, and a large chunk of moral responsibility to be good members of our communities, we have decided the best avenue this year is to make the meet a Virtual Meet.

                              So, FMXIV will be Quaranstiva!

This isn't a bad thing! In fact, this will allow members of the community from all over the world to be part of what could easily be the largest international Festiva Madness ever! Planning for the event is still an ongoing process, but will include T Shirts, facemasks, Zoom meetings ( we have access to a business account thanks to a member,) Discord chats, youtube videos, photo posting and hosting, pod meets and so much more! Stayed tuned for more details that will begin rolling out by next weekend, and will be updated throughout the month of September.

It only takes one person to be part of the Madness at each location. If you would like to gather a FEW friends to a location near you, that would be fine as well. Please follow ALL local restrictions and guidelines for group gatherings. We would encourage you to make the gatherings to be of 10 people or less.

Also, plans are already in motion for FMXV, Stivastock! We already have a car that will be raffled off, A car that will be pulled apart on site for parts for attendees, and so much more!
