  • Festiva festival 2009

I have been giving some thought as to where FF is going to be this year. Traditionaly it has been at Waterford hills raceway in MI. This was due to the fact that Tim Deronne hosted it and FMS helped sponsor him.
So my questions is do we continue with that or do we move it to someplace more centrally located so that more people might attend? I like the moving it idea. One place I like is Beechbend park in Bowling green KY. I am open to suggestions and hopefully by mid Feb we can put it to a vote.
Here is a link to Beechbend for those who aren't familar with it. This is normally held in mid July.
Amusement Park Dragstrip Campground Directions Beech Bend is located a short drive from several major metropolitan areas. We're one hour north of Nashville, TN and 1 hour 40 minutes

I'd vote to move it more south. Detroit is too far out of the way for many. My suggestion would be Elyria, Ohio

Yeah, valleyfair, it is in Shakopee, MN kind of buy the twin cities, and not to far from the Mall Of America.

                  Brian,
Bowling Green Ky is NOT more centrally located than MI. It may be for people east of the Mississippi River. The center of the nation is in South Dakota. I'm not suggesting we have it here, but moving farther east doesn't serve the members in the west very well. MI works much better for me. Just my two pennies.

Ha...was going to suggest the Crater of Diamonds State Park. Looked at it though and it is much further away then I thought. Still going there myself but as for a meet....I doubt it.

Somewhere around the Twin Cities would be more feasible for those of us in the west. If I could make it I'd only have to drive 20 hours instead of the 30+ to Waterford Hills, and that's only one way.

                        Footnote apparently overlooked above:
Per USA today-"A spot about 10 miles north of the western South Dakota town(Belle Fourche, S.D.) is the geographical center of the United States, if Alaska and Hawaii are included."

So without AK and HI, because I don't think anyone from there will be driving to a meet, where is the geographical center of the 48 contiguous states?
Provided, of course, that is what the point of moving the meet is about.
I suspect we would be better served by determining who will attend and their geographical location then determine a point that is the minimum distance for the aggregate collection of attendees, or a town/city in close approximation.
With one rule; if you don't show-up next year your location is not considered in the calculation for the new location.

Well i've always liked the location to where the Festival is since it's only 3 hours for me to get there, having it at Beech Bend would make it almost an 11 hour drive for me, so it would probably be a bit too far for me

                              I really kinda serious... We have 6 interstates nearby. I-80, I-90, I-94, I-55, I-57, & I-65. And with I-74 & I-72a few hours away its really a crossroads. 2 dragstrips, a road course...

Really what we need is for everyone to update themselves
                              @

Somethings wrong cause Lots of people aren't showing up there.

With this info we can judge an approximate Center meeting point for all that will actually attend a meet. I'm up for travelling a bit.
