I really want to come to this and I like the early notice but I don't receive my future schedule for next year until October. I will try following this thread and make a decision here in the close future (2-3 wks).

I will add that I would agree with the I40 through Texas and not the I10 route also, I have taken both routes before although my lates route taking has been I10 and not pleasant my I40 travels were back in 2012 when I actually lived in Amarillo. Just my 2 cents

What is so bad about the I-10 or I-20 route? It seams like those are my only options from Florida. I have taken I-10 all the way to about an hour into Texas but that is as far as I have been."The White Turd" 1993 Festiva 144k miles. (Winner of FOTM November 2016)

My wife is game for turning it into a vacation, but we'll see how well the kid is at long car rides at that point (6 month old should sleep the whole way right? lol) and bringing the fam in a car I plan to drive on the track for two days and might break... well, I've got to think about some logistics!
Can't wait, thanks for putting together another opportunity!
Since I won't have the dedicated "track car" ready by then I'll be driving Skeeter (NA BP/G15/advanced susp). I should probably get some tires specifically for the track so I don't tear up the tires I need to drive home on... lol.~Nate

4-8months old was the best time for long drives with both our kids. They are 2 and 3.5 now and before 4 months your a bit worried about them being in a carseat a long time, 4-8 months they were happy to just eat and sleep in the car, at 9 months old or so they both went through a phaze where they would scream at even the sight of their carseat. After that its sort of one month they dont mind long drives, next month they do.
2 weeks ago we did 10hrs of driving in one day in the festiva with them. They actually enjoy it more because they can see out the windows better and are closer togeather so they can fight easier....
As long as your back 3 windows are tinted.
You could buy a small, used, cheap trailer like i did (mine was $250) and haul a spare engine, trans, tires and other parts along with the mountains of stuff you suddenly have to take with you when you have a small kid.

Good that you have tint, but it isnt just for heat. In the winter here anyway the sun is quite low in the sky all day and shines right in their eyes when they are rear facing. They get tired of that pretty quick. Same with other vehicles headlights that are behind you at night- shines right in their eyes, so tint helps a lot with that.

The 40 is slightly better in Texas, and way less time. You can also spray paint cars at caddilac ranch.Driving for me is neither a right nor a privilege. Driving is my passion, as it was for the people who invented the automobile, the people who paved the first roads and the people who continue to improve the automobile. Please respect this passion.

So I just looked at the Route again and it gave me the i-40 route option without me asking this time. It adds 400 Miles and 8 Hours to my round trip so I guess I will have to see what everyone else has planned before I make a decision."The White Turd" 1993 Festiva 144k miles. Firebush, I live just south of Houston which I10 runs through and if you would like to have someone to make the cruise/road trip with, maybe we could link up in Houston and head up to I40 from there. I have some friends in Amarillo that I wouldn't mind seeing, we could grab a bite to eat and BS for a bit before we hop on to I40 to head to AZ. Let me know what you think.
