  • New CD Player & Speakers!

Just ordered some audio equipment for my Festiva I'm picking up this week. I'm planning to mount the CD Player Unit in the shifter console and my coin/cupholder where the radio normally goes, as many have done in the past.

I'd rather have it built in, I already have to many wires, chargers, adapters, ect to worry about as it is.

No subs or amp at the moment. I'm not really big into car audio. In the near future I'd like to get a good 8" sub for some bass and a amp to run it, nothing crazy though.

You could always go with a Bazooka. Nice Sub for the money and you can take it out when space is needed.

I installed the front 2 speakers, and hooked the radio up. I still need a dash kit, everywhere was sold out of the one I needed. The speakers sounds amazing for what I paid for them, and are much better than the lightning audio brand I used before. Compared to stock it would be a night and day difference. I would recommend the speakers and radio to anyone on the board. Still have to wire and install the rears. I'll do that when I get back from Florida

If you have the rear deck in the car, use it as a template to create a replacement deck out of MDF and rear-mount a Dayton SD215-88 DVC 8" Sub behind some interior-colored grille cloth ( http://www.rtboxes.com/fabric-grill-...FRlinAodDDQRDQ) to retain the stock look. Buy some perforated aluminum sheeting to form your own mesh grille - http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?id=1003&step=2 , and use the circle of MDF rejected from the speaker hole you cut out to help form the grille. The sub is extremely inexpensive, check it out: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=295-480 Because the deck is so wide, you can create a shallow enough box below the deck that you won't lose much space when the box is installed, and this should give you ample space to mount an amp to the underside of the deck as well if you begin the box beside the amp under the face of the enclosure. I would reccomend installing inline connectors for easy removal of the box. There are a number of ways to secure the new box, but one of the best ways is to create a custom bracket under the rear speaker panels. I reccomend the use of wingnuts for quick removal. I love the fact that the switch panels in the Festiva are the same relative size of the generic aftermarket switches so mounting an amp switch bypass can again look stock!

By the way, the perforated aluminum behind grille cloth look makes for a nice visual upgrade to the bladed grilles that come stock in the Festiva. In the front you'll need to replace the panels completely with a mimic shape of the grille face in the aluminum, but the rear is easy. Just cut out the circle, mimic the hole in the aluminum with a rise to compensate for plastic depth, and then cover the entire panel with the cloth.

Did you have a hard time mounting the front speakers..how was the clearance for the tweaters? Were you able to put the factory plastic 'grills' back on?
Im thinking about doing this myself and wanted to ask first.
                          Thanks!

The fronts were easy to change.

                            1) Unscrew the 4 screws holding the speaker in place
                            2) Disconnect speaker wire and remove the speaker
                            3) Connect speaker wire to the new speaker
                            4) Install the speaker and secure with 4 screws

Although because of the tweeter, the stock grill wont clear unless you do some modification to make the speaker sit deeper in. I didn't bother and just left the grill off. It looks better that way IMO.

I still haven't finished the rears yet...and I have to check my radio out again, it just randomly stopped working.

                              Hey Spiko,

I am thinking about getting this same cd player head unit. You have had it for a few months. What's your review after using it for a while? Pros? Cons?
