  • Speaker Size

Okay, there are two speakers in the front... can anyone tell me the size that can be placed in there?

is it 3.5" or 4"? I've got people that tell me different things. Anyone that's a speaker specialist, please help here. And do you have any websites that'll supply me with a hoppin system that's affordable? If not hoppin, then something that can replace my stock system. Thanks.

All 4 speakers are 4 inches in Festivas.

I would recommend you 4 Sony X-plod. They're not expensive and do a really decent job. For the radio a little Alpine will do the job. If you want to had a subwoofer and don't want to pay too much, here again sony X-plod will do the job.

Most people dislike sony X-plod but for the price, that's the best you can have. With 1000$ you can have a decent system.
Is that a Festiva that just passed me?!?!?!

Personally, I don't like Sony's (sorry). I'm a pioneer man. IF you can chump up the coin, i suggest getting the premier deh-p8mp retails for about 400.00. I just put one of these in my festiva, and man, i made a difference in everything. I have put in 25.00 lightning audio speakers in all 4 locations and man, its loud and clean. 1 thing to remember, spend the coin on the head unit, it's the anchor to the sound system. You can have all the best amps and speakers in the world, but with a crappy head unit, the signal wont be clear.

The best advice you can give someone on audio is buy what sounds best to YOU... Also after talking to many audio engineers/enthusiasts at car shows, they all seem to agree on this: If you buy a mid grade amp or a mid grade HU then buy the rest of your audio pieces mid grade. If you want to buy low then buy everything low and you will be extremely happy with the sound. If you have a high end HU and you get shotty speakers then obviously it's not going to sound good. Same as if you buy good speakers and a shotty HU. Just buy comparable equipment and no matter how much you spend you will love the sound. Just my .02 though.. -Kyle

Ohh BTW, HU is Head Unit...

Sony can't make anything for crap. Just because the media & people think they are the best brand doesn't mean their products are good.

I've had a sony xplod head unit, the radio stopped working after 2 months, then the thing burnt out for no reason. My buddy had a similar problem, his CD player didn't work anymore.

I"ve had so many sony failures its not even funny. My $500 sony digicams batt stopped charging, I've been through 3 PS1's and i'm on my 3rd PS2 b/c the worthless DVD drive fails to read DVD"s after a few hours of use.

Anywhoo....Sony speakers are lackluster. Go on cardomain forums and ask anyone there and they will tell you the same. I had a pair of "xplod" subs and they couldn't hit low notes for crap. I swapped in some JL 10w0's and omg what a difference!

As for what speaker brand to buy...it is your choice. MTX make good speakers as does infinity. Pioneers makes SOME good speakers but their lower-end speakers aren't that great. ALpine speakers are OK, but again, their brand-name makes ppl think they are better than they actually are. Stick with alpine amps/head units. Depending on how much money you want to spend you could always get some Polk Audios or Kicker speakers. Focal if you have like $400 to drop on a pair of speakers lol

Yeah man I love JL subs even their W0's are really good right now I have a sealed box with a 8W0 in my Festy and it's loud enough for me and nowhere near obnoxious... My friends 12W0's pounded in his SUV with only like 300 watts crazy. -Kyle

In my last Festy I put 6½ Kicker speakers in the doors. The only bad thing was about raising the windows, a pain in the ass!

I run 4" cheapo walmart lightnings in the front, a pair of kicker 10" subwoofers and sony 6x9s in the back. At 400W, it won't rattle the windows of the guy next to me, but it sure makes me happy.

Actually, if i can figure out how to fish the wire down, I'm going to run a actuator to the lock mechansim for the hatch. The idea would be the same, but you would have to custom make a mount out of mdf or fiberglass to hold the speakers.
