  • Bracket in way of installing cd player

So I'm installing a 2003 Civic cd player into the festy but there is a metal bracket right in the way behind where the cd player goes, and it's keeping the cd player from sitting flush in the hole. Does that bracket serve some super important purpose, or can I remove it? I haven't had a festy dash taken apart enough to know exactly what's going on in there, so I thought I'd ask for some input.

I'd say go for it. Your gonna see if its important when you go to remove it anyway.

Yeah, guess I'll have to get in there and see exactly what it's purpose is

I think if you get the "dash kit" for the festiva, it holds the player out a little further anyway. With that said, maybe it doesn't hold it out as much as you think.
The normal is not always normal... MOST is not ALL... And any job can be hard if you don't have the right tools!!!

I don't like those things, or aftermarket cd players..That's why I got this factory civic cd player to put in. It goes all the way in if I don't have the harness plugged into it, but that bracket get's in the way when I plug the harness in

I would say cut it then. If I remember right that bracket is just there so the factory player sets up on it. Just cut where it sticks up (if I am thinking of the same bracket). You still would want the platform so the cd player stays level.

hmmmm maybe its shorter than his. Or where your harness plugs in may not run into the bracket. Thats what it sounds like for his. His harness and cd player altogether is running into the bracket making it stick out.

Pictures of the bracket, the cd player and the dash would help us help you. :tard:

Getting ready to tear it all apart. I'll take pics along the way. From what I can see, it seems to be holding up the rear of the climate control unit. Other than that, it doesn't look to serve any other purpose

                        Here's the bracket in question...

Went ahead and cut it out...left the top portion which was screwed into something and holding the climate control unit...

Here's the 2003 Honda Civic cd player installed...

This is what the cd player looked like before all the trimming I had to do...it was oddly shaped and way oversized, but I only paid $3 for it so I decided to make it fit!

looks good. Thats the bracket i thought it was. How does it set in? dont move around at all does it. Otherwise i like it. would have gone with a nicer cd player myself.

It's in there super snug! This is the 4th cd/dvd player I've put in this car. The others were all detachable face models, which I hate dealing with. I'd always forget to bring the faceplate with me when I would go anywhere, so I constantly drove without any music. I just wanted something "factory" so I didn't have to deal with detachable faces, and it's less likely to be stolen. I'm not really big on car audio, so cheap and worry free is best for me

It should just be there to hold up the stock cd player so not just the face holds it up.. I dont ever use these when i put in an aftermarket unit but i usually use the kit cause its just easier...
