  • Best subwoofer set up for a festiva.

Figured i would post this up.

I finally got sick of my trunk space being taken up by a subwoofer and having to move it around, only problem was i wanted plenty of bass... So i decided to do something about it. I ordered this http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...tails/p3sd4-10 and built a box exact to rockford fosgates specs. I used the minimum cubic volume they had in the specs and this speaker is a dual voice coil so it has two speaker inputs, now my amp puts out 600 watts rms @ 2ohms so i ordered the 4ohm version and connected the dual voice coils in parallel to drop it to 2ohm. All i can say is wow! i have more then enough bass in fact only have the amp gain at half, and it shakes my mirror so much you cant see out of it, And guess what it maybe takes up a 1/4 of my trunk space if that, and its downfiring so that you can place stuff on top without having to move the speaker around at all. Here is some pics.

If any body is interested i can give you all the measurements and directions on how to build. I spent around 30.00 on the material to build the box, used 1/2" mdf, silicone, and screws.

That is the crossover for my rear component speakers. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/t252-s I wanted to fill in the big gap between sub bass and mid bass and needed a good spot to mount... so i went with almost the highest end rockford components (they werent cheap but totally worth the price) the space i mounted them in acts as a pretty good box, i might still put some filler inside the space to try and lower the cubic volume because right now i think its way too big for the 5.25 woofer.

notice the tweeter above the 5.25 woofer in this pick, I really only wanted the woofer but it comes as a component package so i used them and it really did help set the sound stage in the car.

Had to use some mdf and shape it to fit the plastics.

Nice thing about this spot for the speakers is they are aimed directly at your ears which is what is best.

Here is a pick of the amp placement, the one under drivers seat is for the sub and the one under passenger is driving the rear 5.25 woofer, now on my crossovers i have a bi amp option so i used the rear of the head unit amp out for the tweeters in the rear and the amp drives the 5.25 woofers only. The front dash speakers and a pillar tweeters are running off the front head unit amp so i have better power distributed evenly. If you were to sit in my car and listen... its phenomenal... im very anal about having good, powerfuk, clean sound and this system does it. Only thing left to do is get better dash speakers. My a pillar tweeters are infinity reference domes. My head unit is the pioneer mvh-p8200bt http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...rs/MVH-P8200BT its clean and powerful and uses sd card or usb no cd player i dont use them anyways.

Nice set up!! I really like the speakers on the sides of the backseat ive thought about doing this myself but was not sure on how to go about doing it. Do you think you could do a step by step of it?

Yeah i could.... i was thinking of adding some insulation into the bottom of the spaces any ways so i could take some pics when i pull the speaker out. Its not a super hard process but there is also alot of little things that are kinda a pain, but worth it in the long run because the stock location for rear speakers is a horrible spot... you need a box to really bring out the mid bass in the speakers.

I like that Idea of a down firing Sub. I wish I thought of that myself. I have a dog that is the true definition of a road dog. I don't take in the festy because she has walked on a sub before.

Yeah i was car pulling to work for like a year and a half and guys would put their lunch boxes on top of my subwoofer and i would get pissed so i took it out but then the sound was horrible, so i had to come up with a better solution, i was originally looking at under the seat but would have had to do an 8" max and i think a 10" fills in better, then i saw the rockford shallow mount and somebody used it under a truck seat as a down fire.... and  it just made sense after that. As you can see in the pic the box comes up level with rear seal for the hatch so its a perfect fit and i hardly lose any space at all, and the speaker is extremely well protected, they do also make a 12" if you want a lower bass but the box would have to be a bit wider so would prob take up most of the space below the hatch edge but you would still have plenty of space on top.

^Sounds like you need 2 of them and a false floor box.

                  Looks good, though.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

^lol thanks, trust me 1 is plenty i only have the gain at half and it shakes the rear view mirror so bad you can hardly see. i would like to find a pioneer amp remote gain control knob... i have searched and cant find one but would be nice as some music its way too much bass.

I have a 12" dvc rockford in a walmart box powered by a 1000w amp and it hits hard, probably too much, but the gain isn't even 3/4. I like it, it's not ear drum popping loud but any more is probably overkill unless you are doing some kind of competition stuff. It's really tempting not to go ahead and put in a second sub tho... it's nice to get a back massage on the way home from work lol, and the noise kinda helps keep me awake in the morning! Then some days it just gives me a headache...must be getting old.
