will 5 1/2 inch round speakers work in the stock Festiva rear speaker location without modification? I know the factory size is 5 1/4 rounds, but I got a pair of 5 1/2 inch from my old aspire I wanna try and use... also will Alpine Type-S 4 inch speakers (http://www.cartoys.com/car-audio/spe...-range/sps-410) work in the factory location or would the tweeter stick out too far?

Stock size for the rear is also 4" so I believe that modifications will have to made to fit in the larger speakers.Ian

well the local audio shop confirmed that the stock location for speakers in the rear is 5 1/4 rounds, could I use a 5 1/2 round speaker in the 5 1/4 round speaker hole without modification?Doug's Daily Driver (Dad): '91 Ford Festiva L Manual "Old Yellow" got with 40,xxx mi... about 52,xxx mi. give or take now

I can confirm also that the stock location has an opening for a 5 1/4" speaker, BUT it has mounted into it a 4" speaker from the factory. So a 5 1/4 " speaker WILL require modification, end of story. Trust me.
The link above is wrong. Sorry. I am not trying to be a troll here by any means. I have installed audio systems for over 24 yrs now and have done so in many Festivas too.
1. The rear location will accept many 4' speakers without modification.
2. The 4" speakers that have a large tweeter mounted to it will require a little bit of mods.
3. To put a 5 1/4" speaker into the rear Factory Festiva speaker location will require some pretty decent amounts of modding to fit properly, but can be done easily if you have toe fabricating skills.
4. If you want it to look stock and be a pretty straight forward job. stick wit a good quality 4" speaker.Last edited by Gomez; 02-03-2014, 08:50 PM.-Bryant

I wouldnt go so far as "decent amounts of modding to fit properly". I made a set of simple mounting rings waterjetted out of Alum. which could be screwed to the OE 4" locations and had additional OD to allow the mounting of the 5.5" spacing. Only trick was a pretty significant flat area to fit into the wall side of the factory speaker enclosure.
They spaced down those Dual cone speakers enough that the Tweeter section didnt impact the grill/ribbing.Last edited by needragr; 03-08-2016, 12:21 PM.

Gomez, think how much time you would have saved if you had used fingers for all your work! BTW did you use your toes for the welding work when fabbing up short shifters? If so, there might be a market for heat-resistant toe socks.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods
