While back while I was in Portland, OR I picked up a nice set of 4" Pioneers (better quality than the Wally World ones) at Best buy for 20 bucks, I also nabbed a Matching set of 4x6" that I custom fit into the back seat, above the arm rests, for 20 as well.

They sound great with my amp and tune in nicely, plus they compliment my sub

I will give you a warning though Mail your speakers home Airport Security Demolished my Checked bag and I had to pick it up from the desk and verify that everything that I packed was there since it was wraped with a role of "home land security" tape and my zippers all torn out

My dad replaced the front two when the car was his with the same size Rampage speakers--

when he gave it to me there were no speakers in the back, so I put in 2 6"x9" xplods in those premaid boxes from pepboys and put in a sony a receiver and that sounded great... a short while later I added a rockford fosgate 550, and connected the 6x9s and a 4in bazooka tube to it.
blew the tube up during the 2nd song i played on it. something from bass cube. i hadnt turned down the gain enough.
sound SWEET for a few seconds.
then i got a 6in dual voice coil tube. and i still have that one
recently added some 5 1/4 4-way xplods in the back where the stock speakers are supposed to go, had to modify it a bit, but its great sound.

i don't know about regular subs, but bazooka tubes work great in these cars. on the inside, LOUD. on the outside, barely noticed.

if u go to a car audio place they make wiring adapters for pretty much any type of car out there that just plug right into the stock harness without any splicing needed. i went the after market route. i replaced all mine with memphis audio. a lil pricy but well worth the price in sound quality. if u want something cheap go to walmart for some LIGHTNING AUDIO or PIONEER speakers. i had trouble gettin mine to fit in the back stock location. the stock ones were some weird off size so the sound place i went to had to make some adapters to fit right. the front location went right in
it may not be fast but ill pass u when u run out of gas

The best stock speakers I've seen (or heard loll) so far were from the 6-speaker audio system from my stock 1992 Talon AWD Turbo (4 inches on the dash, something like 5 1/2 inches in the doors, and 6x9 in the rear)...On a side note, the ones I'm currently running in my Festy are pretty good; there's no wattage written on it, but they have really big magnets, they are chrome green with articulated tweeters, and the brand is Logic...They came in one of my Corollas GT-S and I've been so pleased with the power and sound quality that I put them in every new car I buy he he!!!
The left lane? Are you crazy!!! I never drive in the left lane...It's full of freaks driving the wrong way and charging right at you!!!

I picked up some 4" alpines off of eBay for about $40 all-together. I couldn't be more pleased with them. There's obviously better, but for the price they are a huge improvement over the stock speakers. One thing that you might have to watch though is how big the speaker is, because my speaker grills had these 2 vertical pieces of plastic that ran along them that I had to shave down in order for them to fit back on with the speakers.
