Engine choices for the festiva...

so i want to get my festiva project on the road and i need to start researching engines. Basically i want a festiva with around 100-130 hp... i would like to double the stock power. So what engine should i be looking for?? A BP??, if i'm not mistaken a B6 will only add 20 hp to my stock right? ...and what about my tranny, what tranny should i be using with double hp? and of course if i change the tranny what about the drive axle??? would i have to get a custom one made???

i know i got a lot of questions, but the festiva is gonna be my "learning" car...so i figured i'd start by asking ppl that have done this stuff already.

hmmm...that bpt is so tempting, but it seems to not leave ANY room in the front end of the car...so what about a N/A BP...would you have a lil more room in the engine bay with one?

how much HP can the stock festiva transmission hold? could it hold a B6 or a B6T? And yes i searched the forums for answers before and i havent gotten any.

A stock festiva transmission can hold up to about 100 horsepower with worring about breaking. The BP is putting down 140 horsepower, and I split my festiva transmission case. The BP with the festiva tranny is fine as long as you don't launch from a dead stop hardly ever. Also you will still get about 35mpg with the BP/Festy tranny combo. The engine compartment is tight. If you go with the BP/Hydro Tranny from the same car then you have even less room, and more work is needed. I had no knowledge of cars before I did my first BP, and it took me about 3 months of getting help to finish. Now I can do it in 2 days, out with the old in with the new. It would be best if you had another car to drive while you worked on this if you planned on going with a BP, because you will run into unforseen issues that may take time to get help with.

If I where you I would go with a B6T, more room, plenty of aftermarket, puts down I believe 120 horse stock, but the wiring is a nightmere.

b6t is 136 crank hp and 134 torque. and the wiring isnt so bad, but maybe thats because i have had so much trouble with it..lol now im good at it.

i went with the BP then later on decided to turbo since the motor was begging for it anyways hehe.

hey IdealSociety, have you ever done any other swap on the festiva besides the BP(T) and turbo?

B6T is my next choice...has anyone documented ALL the wiring issues anywhere>>>??? (splicing and etc...)

A buddy of mine actually suggested I put a VR6 in my festiva...ummm...sounds possible, and it would be cool, but i'm not at that level yet...gotta start with something that i can get help with first...lol

...and dont worry i plan on having another car to drive while i'm doing the engine swap...actually i really wanna do a complete car rebuild...i've started saving some $$$, and am currently designing and looking for parts...i found someone with an aspire swap, and fms has body kits...i got rims and tires already...it'll take a while but it;ll come eventually.

hi im new here and i dont mean to hijack this thread or anything but....

i just picked up 2 88 festy's for daily drivers.
obviously power is a concern or i wouldnt be here.
has anyone ever tried a taurus sho swap into a festy?
i have way to much knowlege on sho's, i just sold my 95 3.0 supercharged sho. the car put down 386.6 hp and 379.4 fl lbs at the tires without spray. ( i was a spray a 100 shot frankenstein zex\nos kit)
best run to date was 11.91 @ 126 mph.
the reason i bring this all up is i have a built to the hill 3.2 block with select 3.0 parts with 7.6 to 1 compression begging for 30 lbs of boost. but sho's are getting harder and harder to find around this section of new york that still have there body's in tact.

i've had 2 shos and picked up a festy to do the sho swap... i'm actually picking up the motor this weekend since its 1/2 off day at the jy. try searching it and i'm sure u'll find all of it....

Hey Jcom, I did my first swap to a B6 on my ATX car, a '93GL. It was quite enough for this newbie! My next swap will still be a B6 (the engine's already in my garage) into a 5 speed '92L with only 70K miles.

I'll probably just get the next stock engine in and then pick up one more B6, which I'll build up with about 110 to 120 hp. My goal is to "maximize" the B6/stock MTX envelope. This keeps things simple, less expensive, and provides the lightest weight Festiva for best handling.

If you've never done an engine swap, I'd recommend doing a B6 to start. Then you could build up that engine or buy another to build up and swap in, keeping a spare "just in case." Actually, keep a spare engine/tranny ready would speed up any engine OR transaxle problems, in case you did ruin a transmission.

Just my opinion.
