  • What Engine ????????

OK guys here is one for you......

Mods if this is wrong forum please move.....

OK so i have been discussing possible engine upgrades with my Engineer and he has worked on the numbers

    i.e 93 Festiva 5 door 1.3 ltr 8 Valve SOHC tare weight 815kg/1797lbs

    2445cc non Turbo charged......

    2037cc Turbo charged / Supercharged.....

Of course a brake upgrade is needed so i will more than likely go with turbo Capri discs and knuckle with the aspire LCA and sway bar

So what are my options besides the normal B6/8 BP/T wouldn't mind pushing the 2ltr turbo barrier.....

    Craig

p.s I'm in Australia so this is a big Deal to get this sort of go ahead.......

Also would perfer to stay within the Ford/Mazda family....

Was thinking about using the V6 from the Eunos 30x but with single/twin turbos but doubt it will fit without some mods.....

the aspire LCA are too long for the festiva and would create more problems than anything

for the most power, i would go with a BPT since you use the G25MR trannies meaning you won't have to get custom axles made to make the whole thing work and you could push over 300WHP with upgrades, here's a link to a member's car who made over 300WHP with a BPT

      1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
      1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

it's ok, i just figure i call attention to it as another option (and bigger at that) to the aspire swap. pedal feel and travel is FANTASTIC, now i just need to get better rubber and tweek the suspention.

              thanks for the reply guys

have been wanting to go with the BPT DOHC but finding one in Australia is like hens teeth, and if you do they are asking a small fortune......around 2,500 AUD for a front cut....

Hence my thinking about something different,

may just have to go with a B8-ME 16 valve SOHC and turbo that....

              Craig....

Just thought i would add this

Asked a few wreckers here in Oz if they had any B8-ME in stock and they had no idea what i was on about turns out they call them BP-E (8valve sohc) and a BP-ME (16 valve sohc)

                  What it means is

                  2445cc / 2.4Ltrs Non Turbo/supercharged....

                  2037cc / 2.0 Ltrs Turbo/Supercharged....

doesn't matter what make of engine E.G Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Honda as long as it fits and i don't go over the engine size....

                  hope that clears it up

Why would a 2 .0 be the limit for turbocharging?
If a 2.4 will fit, turbo it!

In Australia we have very strict laws on car modifying .....

Forget about the Turbo/Non Turbo part.....

The biggest engine I can fit is a 2.4ltr....

Now in for the technical part of this.....

If I fit a Turbo/Supercharger it will increase the engine capacity, So I have to decrease the engine capacity so that i still fit into the original engine size of 2.4 Ltrs

I.E if i fit a 2.2 ltr motor and then turbo it.... The total motor Capacity would be around 2.7 ltrs.......

                        Hope this clears it up....

                        Craig....

Anyway I think i have decided to go with a B8-ME 16 valve SOHC out of a 94 - 97 323 Astina which will give me the the engine size i like and i will turbocharge that......As after a endless phone calls to wreckers have shown that there is no BPT or B6T available.... We also have a strict import code and those engines are now to old for import..................

Have also been looking through the damaged Motor car auctions for TX3 Lasers 1.6T & 1.8T (escort GT) and Capri XR2 1.6T but nothing yet....

I fail to see how adding a turbo increases displacement. Yes it will increase horsepower but it won't make the engine any bigger in size. And if it is tuned properly it won't be any higher in emissions.

increasing volumetric efficency past 100% effectively increases actual DYNAMIC displacement.

adding a turbo/supercharger to any engine will always cause a positive change in dynamic displacement (more air per stroke via compression).

a 1.3 NA @ 85% VE will displace 1.105L, same engine @ 100% VE displaces 1.3L, and at ~6 PSI you get nearly 141% VE which equals 1.83L (all numbers assuming everything is optimal)

So the law in australia dictates how much boost you can have? Because if you were to change the amount of pressure, the dynamic displacement would change.
