so is it possible to swap a festy tranny into an aspire? or do you have to swap the transmission internals? I know this thread is older than dirt. I'm curious because I have a festy tranny and may buy an aspire with a dead tranny.

The inside are identical except for the final drive gear sizes.

Heck all you need is a tube of gray permatex and some wrenches. Maybe a little talent.
Maybe a copy of this ford cd manual for $10 I got that shows you how to do it step by step, both in and out:

When the (3) detents come out for example, each one has a different spring, the cd shows you where they go. There's a little pin in one of the shift shafts too you don't want to loose it.

To swap an aspire transmission into a festiva you use the aspire front mount and mount bracket. To swap a festiva trans into an aspire, you use the festiva front mount and mount bracket. At least that is as best as I remember being told.
