Has anyone tried trimming off the VAF-to-airbox mounting flange from a VAF to make it physically smaller, fabricating a bracket then use a K&N style filter? I hate that huge assembly blocking access to the belts, timing marks, etc.

They make the adapters to do just that. You can get them at your local auto parts store.

        Check this, might help.

^^^ Bustiva. I might try it. I have a box of plastic ports for speaker enclosures. One might be useful as an adapter.

What a great place to find out stuff.

          Thanks

well i have been having lots of trouble with my idle... car viberating bad.. and i think its all because of the mouting position of the VAF..(god, i hate this huge thing)

Anyway, i need some input on how i can mount it to the spicified position in the pic?

bringing up an old thread but had a question

Could you mount the VAF flat then do a 90* turn down off the VAF and into the fender and put a filter inside the fenderwell? Or does it need to be right next to it as in no tube btw the VAF and filter?

I don't think it would matter as long as the VAF is level and there seems to be some differences as to if that is an issue.

yeah as long as its level you should be fine. They make a 3" adapter for the inlet side of the VAF, so you should be able to plumb it up from there. You could always see if you can mount the VAF to the throttle body then be free to do what you please with the intake...

Did it makes difference in power with the metal tubing?

Your spring might have been weak, its adjustable.

                          Zippy ties goodbabbu, zippy ties.
I took the stiva out today for the first time in 2 weeks. Just got back from oc. Im about to go back here in a few min but before I do I'm going to unhook the dp from the turbo and use the big zippy ties Greg gave me to hold the dp up so I don't have to take off the whole exhaust.

                          No.

I had my vaf mounted vertical in my first car before I went turbo. I didn't have to adjust the spring or anything, it ran fine. If it stalls out or idles rough you can try tightening it a click or 2 or 3.
