  • b6t pistons in a n/a b6 block?

i was working on my motor last night and noticed that the small end of the conecting rod where it meets the piston pin was all discolored from heat... not good so i tried to take out the pin... that didnt go well. i put it on a rag and on top of the vice (but didnt tighten it) then i hit it a copple times with a center punch... it didnt move, its stuck on the rod... and i also buggerd up the piston, the rag didnt do squat, i put some marks in the side of the piston so i need all new pistons and rods i was looking on craigs list and found a set of pistons off of a turbo miata thats selling cheap. my question is would these work in my motor? i did a serch and found they are the same size bore but no luck on the rod bore or anything like that. would these work? and i wanted to do a turbo build but didnt have any turbo pistons laying around...

Yes. The butterfly cuts don't matter. Some b6's 8 valvers had 3, some had four. I say don't go with a rediculous high compression aftermarket pistons and you'll be fine.

Wes, are you using the DOHC rods or the stock rods? I would imagine the swappable, and if that is the case, are the B6t rods stronger?

Yeah they'll fit, they are strong, yet i believe the weight more too. Stock rods were in my b6 but i was thinking of going stronger rods and miata higher compression pistons.

ok... i think its gonna be to much money for a turbo... now im thinking back on the N/A motor... (i change my mind ALOT) anyways, im gonna go to the junkyard tomorow to get some pistons and a 16V head. im wondering what motors i should take them out of. im thinking a bp for the rods (i think they fit and they are stronger too. right?) and the pistons and head out of a auto 323 or mx3 (higher compression. right?) will this set up work?

I put a Miata in my Festiva, also have a BP and BP ECU I will sell.
I think the BP has different stroke than B3 & B6 but the rods are the same length.
Aspires and Sways all around, Miata B6 installed, KYB G2Rs just installed in front. Wish for coil overs someday.

Okay, well you do realize that the rods are heated then the pins are pressed in? I'm pretty sure there not floating pins. So to get them out you need a shop press 5 ton +. I would see about just one piston from a used engine parts supplier, you can ask around at machine shops for a local one.

                Thanks

ya i kind of thought about that and it does make sence... i filed down the markings and they are 100% smooth.... i know it sounds like a stupid move but it will work just fine you can barly tell that anything happend there and i just decided that im gonna keep all the same stuff inside it, no higher comp pistons, stronger rods and head swap.... maby if i get the itch to bump up the hp limits a bit more.... then maby do all that good stuff to it lol thanks for your help evogun. where abouts in bc are you? and BTW your link in your sig doesn't work
