After reading the swap guide I have a question. Didnt the 323 also have a 4speed also? Would an 89 323se have a 5speed or 4. I ask because my imput shaft on my white car is leaking so bad that I leave a steam of fluid everywhere I go and I know of a 323se that I could get all the trans parts from but I thought some 323s had 4speeds and Im not sure if this one does or not. Thanks

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I know the answer to this! I've got a 89 323, and as a result of that, I also got a chilton's service manual. The 4 speed as well as a 5 speed and an auto was avail in the 323 in 86 only (this was the first year for the 323 and the b6), after that just a 5 speed (m-5) or the auto. This book I've got covers 78 thru 89 mazdas, but my 323 has a 4 speed in it (the m-4), obviously as the result of a replacement by the previous owner at some point. The gear ratios are the same for both tranaxles, with just the absence of a fifth gear! and I'm getting 30 to 32 mpg at this point. The epa estimates for the 323's are 26 to 30 for the 4 speed and 28 to 33 for the 5 speed, so I can't complain. I did just recently adjust my tps, so I'm looking forward to a slight increase in the near future.Last edited by iceracerdude; 05-10-2009, 08:05 AM.

90-94 323's were based off of the BG chassis, the festiva is based off the BF chassis like the 88-89 323's

The 90-94 trans will work. The axles will not work because they are longer. The Festiva Store
