  • B6T in a 4 Speed Automatic 89' L: Possible?

Eurostiva suggested that I just drop my new B6T into my car without currently switching the transmission to manual. My question is, has anyone done this, and if so how will the car run?

Your car has a 4 speed auto? What is the trans out of? I am going to run an auto behind my B6T.

Correct. The festiva auto is quite robust, it will handle more power then a festiva manual trans. And turbo cars love auto tranny's. Why do you think the Buick Grand National never offered a manual trans?

Ah, I was under the assumption that my 3 speed stock auto was actually a 4 speed, well that's too bad. But I am hoping to have my project started and finished sometime in early August. Maybe like in the first two weeks of August.
I am just getting my misc. parts list ready and cleaning up a garage.

By the way I am pretty sure my car is a carbeurated version, but not certain. Does anyone have a picture of the carb so I can confirm or deny? I know this isn't necessarily the right thread to ask but I am trying to find out what the differences will be when I do the b6t swap.

That is going to help me alot, yah its a 1989. In fact, it is the same model, color, interior as Quaddawgs B6T. Thats actually why I was wanting to do all this work, was to make the car an awesome autocross car like his 89.

I don't remember ever seeing a manual trans in any RWD Buick or Olds. I'm talking the Regal, Cutlass, Monte platform. Even the Turbo Trans Am. Were any of them available with a manual? Yes, Turbos love the torque converter, but Ford put a manual in the Turbo Coupe, SVO, Turbo GT, Merkur XR4Ti, etc. Did Ford offer an auto in any of these?

Turbo coupes and merkurs offered autos, they sucked though. Especially the 4sp autos. In 87-88 the 5sp tbird had 190hp and the auto had 150. Thats how much ford detuned them to make up for the crap trans.

Yea I know the xr4ti has an auto, there's one here in a jy. Why do turbos go so well with an atx?

autos allow the turbo to spool faster, and stay in boost while shifting. you can load an auto trans in drive (power brake) and build boost without moving, so when you launch, you're already into power (no turbo lag).
