my motor is stock block bore and what not, but i am going to be running a comp cam, its going to be carbed and i have already started buying alot of the parts. the block is being hot tanked. i am thinking of having it bored, but not sure just yet. i may, i may not. i am calling the place tomorrow to see how much it is first, then i will decide. i thank you very much, festyboy and Brian, for all your info and input on the subject. i have talked with my dad alot on this before i had decided (on the engine work). he has done alot of motor rebuilds in his day and porting and all the works, so i trust he can handel the job and show me how to do it. he has done alot of this work so i think i will be ok and i really want to just do it and see what happens. if it doesn't work, then oh well.
that should give you an idea of what i mean.

it's a first gen B6 head, stock valves (new), the block was also new (B6) with blueprinted bottom end, coated pistons. no flow #s unfortunately, but i can tell you with complete certinty that i NEED a bigger cam, the head LIKES a bigger cam (unfortunately, i hosed 6 of 8 lobes on the FMS comp cam ) next step is custom cam, smooth the guides and run the aspire rollers (again) but with behive springs instead of the duals that are in it now.
Can you get a factory "Aspire" cam reground to the specs you need??
I know you want the roller followers (and we have had many discussions about the advantages), but what about trying the FMS "race" cam? My concern is if the head, valves, retainers, rocker shafts and arms will take the increased valve spring pressure required of a radical roller cam with aggressive ramp speeds. I assume the FMS Race cam is somewhat reliable if FMS sells it............

If you can come up with actual flow #'s and have a camshaft spec in mind, I would like to run my Desktop Dyno program on your motor for S&G's. It is reasonably accurate (+- 5%) in most cases. The more exact the input data.......you get the idea.

aspire cam won't give the durration i'm looking for without welding the cam and regrinding it. the Race cam from FMS is a cast cam and will end the same way the comp cam did. had the head built with all new everything (hardened valve seats, bronze guides, etc.) i also have the dyno program you have and have something in mind, but i need flow numbers first....

I was thinking about the FMS race cam with the standard followers. Didn't your comp cam eat itself up because you were running the Aspire rollers on it?

The Desktop Dyno I have is fairly old (2000 I think). I also have the camshaft disc and like to experiment with all the different cam profiles. You can really see the difference a good roller cam makes vs. a flat tappet with more lift & duration!

^ ok, i see, and yes it did, but i believe it was more due to the fact that heavy valve springs were in use as well.

yeah, that's the one i have too... i have a few profiles saved that i could send you to explore.

From what I understand, the larger B6 valves will not fit in the B3 cylinder bores without notching the block. Even at that, the close approximation means the valves will be shrouded and flow would be effected. There are some companies that make slightly oversized replacement valves (Enginetech for instance). Don't know if the offer them for the B3.
