Yeah, The trans has to be removed and completely disassembled.
That "clip" you're seeing is what's left of the destroyed bearing cage
Those bearing peices are probably from the diff bearings.

New seals $4 each, 2.6 quarts of atf $12, not doing either of those things in a timely manner and destroying a trans...priceless!
This post should actually be made a sticky!

well i threw the seals in with no bearing and filled her up and i have been moving her around the driveway no problem.

what dangers are involved in driving this thing without diff bearings? cause i honestly dont car what happens to this transmission anymore maybe ill go do some hard launches! i just dont want an axle or something to pop out and punch a hole through something important.

      an update.

the hydro g25mr will be here hopefully on thursday. maxtiva is welding up my mounts. damkid is working on a hydro cable adapter. and i have a spec stage 2 clutch for an escort gt in the mail.

i still need the stock flywheel, axles and intermediate shaft.

from reading, i guess i need to fab up a mount for the intermediate shaft? anyone have a pic of what this is supposed to look like?

The first thing to happen, since the diff bearings are half eaten, is the diff will strip. Then a horrendous grinding noise and then stoppage. Take a video camera with you so you can share the experience with us lol. There are a few designs for i-shaft brackets. some people make an adapter, some redrill the stock mounting plate, or weld on an extra ear to catch one of the block's mounting holes.

          pics would be awesome.

according to this writeup, you can use the stock protege lx or escort gt rear tranny mount without any modification....

          is that true?

I think I may have the ugliest, most retardedly designed most bomb-proof 57 pound shaft mount ever. There are pics of better designs floating around here.

It all depends on how your engine is oriented in your engine bay, too many variables as far as positioning. If you use the stock mount it may put you too close to the firewall, or trans too close to steering rack, its trial and error.

are the rear tranny mounts interchangeable from the excort gt'?

and yeah i actually had no idea what a midshaft even looked like. im still not sure how the axle mounts to the shaft. the pic is helpful cause it gives me an idea of what i will be dealing with. thanks

I used the egt trans mounts to make egt/stiva x-member hybrid mounts. Doubt they will work if just bolted on and expected to line up with stock trans crossmember. I really dont know, I made all of mine and did without the stock crossmember.
