festivafan, guys like me kinda specialize in the impossible , when guys say '' you can't get that kinda power from an engine that size'' it makes it even more funner for me when i end up getting even more than i planned on . A good example is a buisness friend of mine in florida has a turbo shop aswell,he has a pulling lawn tractor putting out 242 HP with a highly modified 5 horse briggs. The engine l'm running now has a stock bottom end so l don't see any reason to turn more than 6500 rpm. The modifications l'm doing l feel many of you would be interested in as an allternative to an engine swap & would consist of using the engine you already have just improving on the top end as an economical way to go. After this of course, l'm goin to put the screws to it, maybe a 9 second festiva in the works!
sorry guys the b3 crank is cast! the rods are forged though. In my experience (cost not being a factor) the physical limitations of an i.c. engine is around 1000 hp per liter. hp is not what destroys an engine , rpm ,cylinder pressure, harmonic frequence is! If ican get nearly 2500hp froma modular ford 500 in a b3 is a low goal.
don't know where you got that info from, but mazda says that the B series cranks are all forged, including the B3. if you are certain you have a cast crank, i have a few spares and could send you a forged copy.

With a NA intake side feed like his is, you want the first cylinder in front of the TB, which is number one, to be longer than the rest. THey should get shorter on each cylinder. Like going in a incline. The is to keep the velocity the same in all cylinders. Of course theres a science to the proper lengths. You dont just guess at it. If going FI none of this really matters
not to clutter up this thread but if someone is looking for a bp intake manifold that has the TB on the left side i have just the thing i saw this on miataturbo.net and fell in love... when i get the money in gonna make one for my motor...
Im not sure who did this but Ive had these pics on my computer for a while now. Im pretty sure the manifold was for a GSR (B18C1), and that a BP flange mated to it pretty easily.
if i cant get a gtx intake soon im gonna go to the junkyard and grab a stock one and hack it up... hopefully it works...

Try to find a stock B18 Intake in a junkyard, lol. Those motors are high dollar item...
Does the BP have a separate plate for the Fuel injectors I take it?

fesyboy, i,ve got several b3,s at the shop the way to identifiy castings or forgings; is what called the parting seam, acasting has narrow seam (.050) running the lenght of the crank, forging has a .250-.300 seam running the length of the crank but i'm sure you already new that! check yours one more time.
mr2gg, please dont take this the wrong way this is an intake not a/c trunk line for factory.an intake like this should be thought of in 2 stages incorperating whats called dpwct (dynamic pulse wave charge tuning) the throttle body charges or fills the pleneum 1. each cylinder then draws the charge in during the intake stroke as the intake valve closes during the end of the stroke a pulse wave moves back up the intake runner the pulse width of this wave is also affected by overlap in the cam, but any way this wave can be tuned by runner llength to be manipulated ina way that increases port volosity.and intake scavaging ,the remaining reverberation willbe cancaled out in the plenem. any deveation from this fact will adversly affect over all performance. notice the edelbrock inatke above ( though someone changed the flange s) equal length runners large open pleneom, maybe those silly edelbrock engineers need some edjucating aswell!
