  • b6t exhaust manifold problem!

So I have just purchased a b6t out of a 89 323gtx and its missing the exhaust manifold. If u are fimilar with this engine u know it has an oddball amount of exhaust studs on the head there are 11 exhaust studs..... I've been searching ebay for hours trying to find a manifold that will work! Can't find one. Can I remove the random 2 extra studs and bolt a mx5 manifold on it? Or if u have a factory manifold I'm verry interisted in buying it! Pm me if u do have one. Thanks any help is verry great!

Sorry there aren't too many aftermarket manifolds available. You can find an used B6T manifold fairly cheap. MX5 stuff won't work, not without modding the flanges anyway

Definitely need an adapter plate remedy. IHI turbos and the Mitsubishi ones do not interchange without either chop/welding the flange or an adapter plate.

Ok thankfully they are way cheap on ebay! Another question..... how much is safe boost on a b6t for typacal daily driving? I was hoping to set the boost for 14psi..... is that a safe reliable amount of boost? I know the stock setup is abot 140 hp and I'm shootin for about 200-220 hp. Mods will be 2.5" straight exhaust, bov, 2.5 intercooler piping and small intercooler (front mount). And possibly the computer chip mod? and will the factory fuel pump for a festy ouput enough fuel to keep up with fuel consumption/pressure?

You're going to want to do the following, according to Corksport:

                  Step #0 - Boost gauge.
Step #1 Exhaust. 2.5 will work great
Step #2 ECU upgrade to allow you to run up the 15-16psi (PM user Rocketman for details... his name is Matt)
                  Step #3 boost controller
Step #4 Upgrade the POS IC and piping
                  Step #5 Upgrade the BOV.

On a budget, grab a 1JZ Supra Front Mount... it'll flow more than plenty for up to 300HP and fit beside the radiator DSM BOV is a great choice... crushing not necessary for under 18PSI. Do hard piping if you can, it'll be short runner too. The chips are fantastic, but a little pricier. The exhaust I expect will cost the most.

With those modifications and a VJ-11 hybrid or full swap, you can expect in the neighbourhood of 190WHP with 15-16PSI. You'll definitely need a better fuel pump... look into RX7 or DSM Walbro 190/255LPH's.

Thanks for the info aaron! So I was doing some reading ant supposedly I need a harness swap to run this engine.... is this totally nesecarry? The bp just needs one extra wire so why would the b6t be any different?

Entirely different setup. B6t has vacuum advance. Bp doesnt. B6t is a 3plug ecu. Most bps are two.

In short no you don't need to swap a harness in the tried & tested manner that many have done, to make it run. I'm sure you can just make your own from scratch
It's a good thing you don't read the stickies, you might of learned something.Poverty produces creativity

Do u know if they make an adapter harness from the 2 to the 3 plug harness? I hater wiring I've already done a full harness swap from carb to efi. Not too fun!

If not mistaken, a bp can be later swapped in place of the b6t, running all b6t electrical. b6t also has knock sensor and extra stuff you should be interested in retaining to keep everything safe and fuel/timing curves turbo friendly.

Fastiva in this thread has that combo, and pretty sure he reharnessed the car for a b6t for California inspection.

Ok but the bp computer is a 2 plug. A b6t is a 3 plug so how would that even be possible unless u take every pin connector out of the 2 plug setup and place all of the pin connectors into 3 plug setup? I'm not following your logic..... so he swaped from a bp to a b6t and then later changed the harness to a 323 for cali inspection? And is the capri computer still a 3 plug?
