We used an older b6 with a newer b6 ecu and everything up top. The b3 header will work on the older engines but not the newer ones, the round mazda 323s for example.
A bump in compression will still lose to a car with 16 valves so a low miles swap should still be priority unless you have connections on the machine work, just from a money only point of view.1993 GL 5 speed

Wow! You got a great deal, IMO. I paid $125 and only had my head hot tanked and checked & decked. Next time I won't be in such a hurry and will shop around!
I'll also do some or most of it myself, if possible.

I'm asking because I've thought about taking a freshly decked B3 head that I have and installing stock B6 valves. I figured I could do some chamber work (like relieve the edges of the chambers to help unshroud the valves) and maybe still end up with smaller chambers than a stock B6. The goal would be to raise compression on a B6 to around 10.25:1 (or at least 10:1) and have improved head flow at the same time. Without some loose heads to compare, it's just a theory at this point.Brian

Interested too if a b6 with a gone over b3 head can be made superior to an untouched b6 long block. My buddy says his b6 smokes on startup and i have two extra b3 heads.
I imagine the later b6 heads are better but the older engines have much more in common, which is what he's running in his festiva.Last edited by getnpsi; 01-12-2011, 02:54 PM.1993 GL 5 speed
