  • Speed sensor question

Just finished switching to a G25MR trans from a 94 EGT in my festy, got everything hooked up besides one thing which is the speedo gear, the one in it is completely different and the festy's speedo gear is way too long. Did some searching but so far havn't seen much referencing it. How do I make this work?
It's not the size that counts....It's how you use it.

    90 L 5spd- BP project

you have to use the g25 speedo sensor. i didnt have one so i cut the bottom of my festy sensor off to block the hole until i get one.

it dont screw on thats where my problem lies, i have the sensor with an electric connector on it and a clip in cable end would go inside of it, the only thoughts i have is maybe the protege dx would have the right one for it considering i cant find the sensor in any parts store in town, for now im just going to tie up the festys cable and leave the escort one in it so it doesnt leak and rely on my garmin but id like the gauge to work since its there

Oh I see, youre saying you have an electronic VSS in your EGT trans instead of the cable setup thats in the Capri trans.

That is correct sir, It's driving me nuts driving and the only thing not working on my entire car is the speedometer. A miracle happend though and I found a a semi-local you pull it yard with a complete 95 EGT 5 spd, complete 91 Protege 5 spd, and a 92 Capri xr2 5 spd semi taken apart but drivetrain intact, Saturday im going down there and yanking the engines, transmissions, and wiring harnesses out of all 3 with sensors before they dissapear or get crushed.

should be able to use the protege LX cable, though it'll be about 2" longer than normal. just remember to pull the inner cable and clean it thuroughly and then clean the tube as well then re-lube the cable with molly grease.

id have to change the cable to use the capri gear and housing? Or is that if i kept the EGT gear or pulled the gear out of the mazda?

From what ive read so far it looks as if the festy has a mazda cable end on the trans side and a ford end on the speedo, am I correct in saying this?

pull the gear AND cable from the LX and put in place of the EGT stuff, then run the cable (after cleaning/lube) just like a festy cable.

oh ok, im going to be spending most of the day up there since they have both an lx and an egt so i think im going to scavenge engines, transmissions, and wiring harnesses since its 50 per trans and 65 per engine this saturday and next so i might as well grab everything, thanks for the info

they have an xr2 up there too but im not 100% sure whats left in it, i know its got no spark plugs in it and the hood was up 2 weeks ago so i shut it intending to go back and scrounge the halfshaft and a few other things when sale week came up,

if i use the xr2 speedo do i have to swap cables

not that i'm aware of and if the b6t engine is toast, think you could pull the crank?

im not sure the if the engines toast but it would definitely be a project motor since it would need to be bored and stuff im sure, ill pull it and take it home with me, take it apart and see whats salvageable, the wiring harness and halfshafts are definitely useful, i grab one every chance i get
