  • Question for those running Weber carb.

I am in the process of making an adapter to use a 32-36 from an escort. Is there enough clearance under the hood for a 2" high adapter and an aftermarket air cleaner?

Should be. Below is drddan's thread on installing his Weber. Page 3 has good pics. He made his own two-piece adaptor, which is about 1" high, and there is lots of clearance with the Weber air filter. That is the shorter filter Weber offers; there is a taller one too, and even that would fit in there with lots of room left over. Why not just use the Weber filter?

That is the filter I plan to use.
On drddan's, was there any advantage to having the bottom in a figure eight then transitioning to a rectangle vs a straight rectangle?

Just take your intake manifold in to a machine shop and have some aluminum welding, drilling, tapping done. It would probably cost the same as a big thick 2" adapter, but look a whole lot better.

Making the adapter is less trouble for me. I had some 2" thick aluminum plate and I can do the machining at work. And get paid to do it.:eeeeeek:

I'll try to snap some pics when it's done.

I wanted smooth flow, without any ledges to create any air turbulance.
The bottom is a match for the Festiva manifold, which makes a smooth transition to a match to the straight shape of the Weber.
Dont know if it helps much with the 1.3, but that is the idea I had and wanted to do on my adaptor.

I agree with your thoughts and would like to do the same. My problem is I haven't removed the original carb yet.; I had an extra intake, but left it in a parts car I sold. Wish I had it now so I could take it to work with me. On the weber side, is the rectangle opening inline to the outside of the venturi's?

You can use a gasket for a couple bucks from a McParts place to get both shapes.

BTW, my adaptor totaled 1 1/2 " thick. Plenty of room under the hood. And watch that weird bolt pattern on the Festy. You'll have to align the plates right to get it all in line straight. Its kinda offset, not in the exact center of the adaptor plates.

I bought an adapter kit for a Suzuki Samurai and had a local welder tig the bottom plate from the kit to the Festiva manifold. also played around with a grinder to smooth the edges.

Went to Advance to get a Festy gasket yesterday. They would have to order it from Felpro. Carquest had one somewhere in WVA. I wanted it yesterday so I could have the adapter done by tomorrow. I've got one at my weekend place which is where the car and my shop is. Guess I'll finish it next week
