  • b3 dizzy delete

I was reading on the miata forums and came across a guy that is putting a B3 into his miata as a gas saving project. He has to delete the distributor on the B3 and uses a CAS off of a B6 miata motor..very interesting.

    here is a link,

    very cool imo

Intriguing! I've been thinking about building a B3D out of my Miata motor and one of the spare B3s. Just have too many other projects that need doing before that happens. I don't think the stock B3 would like the SUPER short gearing in the Miata (around 4k at like 55mph in fourth!). But with the twin cam head it might enjoying revving out a bit more. Doubt it will work but I'm gonna do some testing when I have the motor apart hopefully maybe this spring lol.
      No festiva for me ATM...

I'm interested to see if he can pull the CAS conversion off. He's much better off using the Miata management or going with a Megasquirt, it would be much easier.

The major problem he'll run into, is that the CAS simply provides a signal, and has no vacuum advance/retard for the timing. Nor will it have the RPM based advance using the centrifugal weights - he's going to be stuck at one exact point of ignition timing. This isn't good. The Miata ECU automatically calculates all this, and it sounds like he's sticking with a Festiva ECU, which isn't equipped to do so. Megasquirt would allow him to program timing maps correctly, but reading his posts it doesn't sound like he knows too much about it.

Best of luck to him, seems like a bit of an asinine project but I'd considered the swap into a Capri as well so I can't really say much

He'd have been better off sourcing an RF diesel. :/

We were looking at an escort wagon with a blown out engine and we considered doing a B6/F3A swap into it lol. Just because we had a B6 and F3A laying around. Ended up passing on the wagon though. I'm not sure why I want to build a B3D, other than the fact that it would be a fun experience and I have all the parts available. The BNC B6D in my Miata has a horribly worn crank keyway, locktite fix is holding for now, but I doubt it will forever lol plus it needs reringing anyway. I guess I just want to try something new, I've frankenstiened motors and transmissions into other cars before, but never frankenstiened two motors together. Like the B6/Z5 turbo and stuff lol.
