I think I'm just gonna cut a section off between the pivot point and lower joint of the shifter. I haven't thought much about it yet to know how much to cut but that's a problem for another day. wayyy too much on my plate right now, I need to get this 1200$ transmission back together.

You need to extend it between the pivot and the rod mount, not shorten it
