  • Frustrating...burning oil

Okay so my GTXR2 runs a junkyard BP with ~75k miles on it.

I have a VJ20/Tbird hybrid on it. Turbo had some shaft play, I think due to oil issues on my old 1.6

The engine has smoked a bit since day one, I've assumed it was the turbo going out, I didn't have a chance to rebuild it.

Recently rebuilt the turbo myself, not quite sure if it worked but it feels much better than it did before. Upgraded the comp wheel to the "16T upgrade" I got on eBay a while back. Car boosts great.

However, still smokes. Pretty good at idle.

I blocked the oil feed to the turbo. I've done this in the past on other Capri with known blown turbos, and the smoking stopped immediately. Still smokes, even after several minutes. I don't think there was that much oil loaded up in the exhaust.

What think? No excessive blow-by, I will be doing a compression test later today.

I was really hoping to be able to take this to Ohiostiva, but not with it smoking like this.

    Ideas?

PVC valve.....would check that first! Or valve seals would be my second option.

PCV is connected to a catch can. I had though it it, and disconnected the system from the intake manifold, no change in smoke

smokes alot at idle? How about closed throttle decel? If so, I'd say valve stem seals.

Well with a catch can. Valve seals are suspect number one.

Closed throttle decel seems to load up with oil, when I get back on the throttle it smokes pretty good.

Idle it smokes pretty good. After running around a while it takes a little bit for the smoke to return

Guess I'll be doing the valvestem seals soon

If you don't bring the GTXR2D2CBR600R1 to Ohiostiva then I will never get to see it. :-(

I have a couple spare sets. The bolts are the only thing that are damaged, they were snapped at the head rather than snapped flush at the cog. They threaded out by hand, I'm in the process of replacing them. Ugh.
