Save your clutch?? Is this a good method??

OK..today i was at the stop sign.
Put the clutch in -put it it 1st..give it some gas..let off completely get it out of 1st(didn't push the clutch in) put the lever towards the 2nd gear..then automatically jumps in 2nd...give it some gas- let off completely get it out of 2nd(didn't push the clutch in) put the lever towards the 3rd gear..then it goes auto in 3rd...and so ON till i hit 5th gear.
As far as I know this is 'revv matching'...I did try it on my previous car but it never worked...i did try it on a big rig and it always does..
I'm AMAZED that on my 95 Apire it works,,,I didn't got time to read to much about it, but I'm wandering if shifting like this will hurt the tranny in time??anybody does it on here?+ it doesn't grind if you do it perfect..
I didn't install yet a tach in my car..but I did a shift pattern for UP-shifting ,and for like 1 day now, i never got 1 grind out of it.
I know it works for downshifting also...but it's risky without a tach.(since you have to rev the engine so much to do the match)
On all my cars that I've owned I never downshifted ,or tried to avoid it as much as possible(since downshifting is the part where the big clutch friction occurs, and I tried to get the most life out of the clutch)
Well anyway i got a lot of driving skills and methods, but I would appreciate some feedback!

I do this on all my cars. Back when I was in the army I saw a guy shifting his duece and a half without a clutch. When I drove home that night I tried it and been clutchless shifting ever since. I do still use the clutch most of the time. Upshift and downshifting never a problem even in my mustang. Downsifting does takes some practice.

Spare the clutch, and wear the transmission. I don't see the economy there.

Try it you'll see it's as smooth as shifting with the clutch if you do it right.

Clutch set at shucks is $91. Transmission from a junkyard is $60.

The only thing you are really saving here is the throw out bearing. You can and should still revmatch while using the clutch, which saves wear on the disc. Shifting while moving doesn't put nearly the wear on the clutch as starting does. You can shift without the clutch for a year, one hard launch and you've done as much damage.

I first learned to do this in a 68 Cougar with a TopLoader 4 spd. Had to, the 3200 lb Hays clutch/preassure plate was killing my leg and back.
I've tried it on other cars since (85, 89, 93, 03 Mustang and my 88 Festiva) but you realy have to pay attention to what you are doing. Its probably not the best thing for your sincronizers thou. Most of the time I use the clutch. The important thing to remember when clutching is not to slip the clutch any more than you can help, like revving up between gears or on takeoff. My 93 5.0 Mustang had 271,000 miles on it when I sold it and it still had the original clutch. My 88 Festiva had 263,000 miles when the engine lost a cylinder and the clutch still looked good (changed it anyway, didn't want to have to pull the tranny again).
Hey why waist time trying to match engine/tran speed, just leave the gas on the floor and see how fast you can get it from 1st to 2nd while clutching. :shock:

I never use my clutch for shifting on my bike.

Once in a while I do it on my car. As long as you're paying attention it works fine.

Honestly though, shifting doesn't hurt a clutch much. Taking off from a stock is where most of the wear occurs.

Thats becuase a bike trans is designed to be shifted without a clutch. most bikes anyways.

i was able to pull that off in the festiva with the old transmission but after going through one transmission so far... i wouldn't recommend doing this a lot because it non the less is harsh on the transmission.

So what is this called then? If I've been driving standard for about 3 months should I try to do it? I don't understand how to do it exactly.

Start off simple. Get going at a comfortable speed in 3rd gear, maybe 35mph. Let off the gas and at the same time pull the shifter to 4th (no clutch). Don't force it, when the rpm's are matched it will fall right in.
