  • B6 Main bearing clearance

Does anyone have a listing for the main bearing oil clearance for an '89 B6....other than the Haynes manual? Like maybe a Ford Service Manual?

My Haynes lists the clearance as .0007"-.0014".....which seems pretty tight to me, but they list the "service limit" as .004". The local NAPA machine shop that polished my crank said their Federal Mogul bearing spec manual shows the clearance as .0012" - .0032" (which seems more realistic to me). Right now, I'm looking at between .0025" and .003" clearance.......which is pretty loose, but not terrible. If I was running 50W oil and circle track it would be great, LOL, but I would have preferred to be around .002" to .0025" max. I'm just looking for another published source for the recommended oil clearance.

From 1988 shop manual for 1.6L:
    Desired clearance - .0011 to .0027
    Allowable clearance - .0039
    Dimensions are inches.
    You gonna race that thing?

Excellent, thank you! I feel better now, I'm sitting at just under .003" on all the mains except the last (#5), which is around .0025". Pretty much right where I wanted...just on the the loose side of spec range. The crank spins just right by feel, you can spin it with two fingers and it will continue to spin about one full revolution on its own. The ring gap is around .010" on all cylinders. Should make for a good performance build.
If I could trouble you some more, it would be great to know the rod clearances as well. I'll be posting some updates in my build thread.
